I notice this comment from Bale's long time agent. ' I hope he can get his love for the game back ' .

So part of his RM prob was that he'd lost his appetite for football . With this in mind , the Chinese trip made sense .

But does this make sense when he goes into a seriously physical Prem ? .He gonna get the space to enjoy himself in the fabled freezing Feb
away match to Burnley ?

'Its up to him' (to get his footielove back) says agent so we'll see I guess . Fingers crossed .
It wasn't about the league per say. It was about being at a club where he feels happy and loved.

Kane today played like a better version of Roberto Firmino except he also scores goals. If we can add that to our "Salah and Mane" in Son and Bale then we'll be a hugely potent threat this season.

That being said - the way I am reading things on here and Twitter I think some of you are going to be very disappointed with Bale's return. World class he certainly was, but even in an environment where he "feels loved" etc etc etc - he may well not get anywhere close to what he once was, and even though I'm sure he is still a top technical footballer then his injury record means there's a good chance we only see him fit and in good form for a handful of games in the season which would make any discussion of 70 goal hauls from the trio borderline delusional - Kane has had his own injury issues of course.

Son, Kane and 2013 Bale would without question be the best front three in the league. Probably even 2018 Bale as well. Now - I'll wait and see what player has arrived before declaring our front line better than Liverpool's or City's.

Lastly - I think today is going to be an outlier rather than a taste of what's to come. Some superb individual performances today from Son and Kane, with Ndombele and a few others having flashes of brilliance, but don't let the scoreline fool you - we were lucky not to lose, let alone come away with an emphatic win, after struggling badly but being gifted goals from a suicidally high Southampton line. Credit to Mourinho for spotting it and setting up Kane and Son to take advantage in the second half - but I guarantee that most teams will not be this open especially when Bale is in the side - so we are going to have to learn to beat our achilles heel - well organised teams defending deep. Ndombele's improvement and the addition of attacking full-backs might give us that ability but we'll see.

To end on a high though - what really impressed me was how clinical we were today. All of the goals, those that counted and those that didn't, were examples of brilliant finishing and a killer instinct when they gave us hope - compared to say Adams who had the chances to win the game for them but was wasteful. If we dominate the midfield battles and can supply this front three then we'll have a good chance in any game.
Agree with this. Some of the stuff I read on here is cringey as fuck, I sometimes wonder if I'm in the right place. The raging boners over the "leadership" shown in PEH's arrival interview, for instance. Or declaring these to be the best front three in the league after precisely zero minutes together. We have no idea what we're going to get from Bale at this point in his career, having not played regular football for a good couple of years now. Plus there are also his injury issues to consider. That's before we look at how we get the rest of the team to consistently get them the ball in areas they can be effective.

Let's calm down, basically.

Could be , but I read an article today , Hayter I think ,who also put the question of whether Bale still has his love for football . Obv a friendly environment will help , but I don't think its yet sure that he'll re-find his footie zest . Fingers crossed .

Always been a big fan of lamela and have never really understood why he doesn't get more game time. Its probably his goal return. I absolutely agree, he is far better in there than winks.
Lamela has never shown the ability to even come close to playing a deeper midfield position IMO. His first touch is not good enough and he takes too long on the ball not to mention that his positional sense is all over the place. Winks and Lamela are 2 completely different players and while I would like Winks to provide more. Lamela is not the one to do it.

I hope that we get to a point where the 3 in the middle is a DM with 2 AMs. GLC and Dele (TN if he ever gets fit) could play those AMs with Lamela having the ability to slide in there later in matches as legs get tired.

The only way I could see Lamela as a central midfielder working is in a three-man central midfield, with the other two players both having good positional sense. Lamela could then be instructed to just focus on closing players down, hassling them, making tackles - and then when he's won the ball, his instincts are to drive forward with it. You're right that he dwells on the ball too much, but in a counter-attacking situation, after we've just won the ball, he'll have space to move into and clear passing options ahead of him.

I don't think this would be particularly good, but if Lo Celso and Ndombele are both out injured we can't play Winks/Sissoko/Hojbjerg without a creator in there.

I read lots of views having a pop at Lamela and it really gets my goat he is worth keeping for being an impact player when your in trouble and he actually affects games when he comes on when we are in trouble he is such a positive influence on games and seems to make things happen . There are not many we can bring on when in trouble who actually manage to have an impact .
Not least to mention he loves the club and to me that means a lot .

Id actually start Lamela next to Hojbjerg with GLC or Ndombele the other side. He's a vicious bastard in midfield, unlike Winks, and can see and execute a forward ball quickly, unlike Winks.
I think we'd be stronger defensively and attacking with him in there instead of Winks.
Agree 100%

Now just need to find a way to keep him fit!

For Son Kane Bale to work it will depend greatly on Harry Kane . Son and Bale are very individual players ie run direct to goal capable of the unbelievable.

Kane can do the same but has a creative part to his game he needs to tap more into. I can see moments where Kane will find positions and both Son and Bale will strike for goal.

What I am trying to say about Lamela and loving the club " and to me it means a lot "
There have been plenty of great players like Sheringham / Berbatov / Carrick etc that could not get out of the club quick enough .
Where as the players that really have a feel for the club have opportunities to leave but choose to stay players like Mabbut / Anderton / etc
This is why it means a lot to me that they feel like us fans about the club .You can always say players despite what they say will always choose to move to the Man Unts of this world when in fact Mabbut and Anderton were wanted by United but chose to stay and this to me makes them all the greater .

Peeeyeempee have I said something to offend you because the two posts I have made on loyalty and loving the club seems to be a source for you so you can make fun . is it my love of the clubs or the players that love the club that is the reason you are so flippant about or are you just a person that likes to take the piss in the safety of your own home .Make a fun of someone once and its a bit of fun to keep doing it is tantamount to piss taking .Or perhaps I am the only one that finds player loyalty a rare thing and something to be applauded and others like yourself find it a thing to make jokes about .

I know what you’re trying to say mate, and certainly with Mabbutt I would agree.

With Anderton I think (rather cynically some may argue) it was more due to him being so injury prone, the club standing by him during those years and bigger clubs realising that he wasn’t a good investment. As much as I love him, the same would apply to Ledley - I really don’t think he’d have stayed had he been free of injuries.

With Lamela, he’s on a very good wage at Spurs and he’s settled in London with a young family. To be blunt though, he’s not developed into anywhere near the player we hoped we were investing in and certainly a bigger club than us would not want to buy him. He’s been a handy squad player when fit and he seems comfortable with that role.

I don’t really think true loyalty exists in the modern game.

Harry Kane is the closest we’ve got to it right now, if you weigh up his ability against the length of time he’s been with us and the club’s ability to competeat the top. Even with H though, I can see him leaving in a year or so to go and win something if he can’t do it with us - and to be honest, fair enough.
