No, but I expect Ronnie to fly past Hendry's century break record this tournament, he only needs 3.

True, I thought it was over early on, although thought he would then go on to win after pulling level.. I'd meant in the tournament as a whole though, given his form recently.

Shame as I quite like him and find Murphy just unbearable to even look at!

Maximum on opening night for Marco Fu, tidy break, never really in trouble late on

Never been a fan of Murphy but you have to take your hat off to him after that performance. Played superbly from start to finish in the final, and a deserved champion.

Resurrecting this thread due to the arrogance of a certain Ronnie O'Sullivan at the Welsh Open today.
He was heading for a 147 break, but when he realised that the prize for doing so is "only" £10k he deliberately hit a 146 instead, in protest at the low prize fund.
If it wasn't enough for him to bank, he should still have hit the 147 and then said money would go to a charity.
Jumped up little ****

Yup he's swiftly going from the most popular snooker player to a complete cock.

So sorry that £10,000 isn't enough for you Ronnie you great gloating arsehole.

In fairness dropping the winnings so much gives the players less incentive for big breaks and I agree with him. I had the same initial knee jerk for a split second but I've never minded Ronnie and respect him as the best player ever. I can see why it would annoy people though.

Sorry but considering how much money he'll have earned in his career, together with the arrogant way he treats snooker as his personal play-thing, him suggesting that £10,000 isn't worth trying for will rightly wind people up.

It would be like a footballer refusing to score a penalty because his goal bonus isn't big enough.

Pathetic basically.

My apologies I thought we were at the WC and they'd taken the winnings down. It's too early for that. Sorry I've just had a couple of pints and a bit of lunch at the pub :) I am talking shit again.

It's a shame because I think he is the greatest player ever but it's taking the piss to tell people that 10k isn't worth it when they have paid good money to watch him play

Difficult one with Ronnie. He's pretty much earned the right to do whatever he wants, and turning down the 147 is not going to lose him any popularity I predict. It was a bit disappointing, and they were silly words to use, but I reckon he thinks that the players should be more rewarded and especially from his personal POV and the stage he is at in his career... If he is going to turn up, entertain, put bums on seats and maybe even hit a maximum break then he wants it to be worth his while and a bigger payday.

I think some of it is also that he isn't at all bothered about the event, and what he did reflects that. It seems currently he is doing a 4-5 month season. He'll play The Masters which is on his doorstep and has prestige, do a few of these smaller tournaments as a bit of a practice knockaround and then the World Championship. If it had been either of those two tournaments (not sure if the prize fund would be higher?) then he would have taken the black on I suspect.

Tough one for the sponsors though and those who stump up the prize funds as the standard keeps going up and maximum breaks are becoming more common these days, so can understand its not seen as such a special achievement these days for a big payout. Maybe some sort of compromise to keep players and particularly Ronnie motivated and wanting to take risks and the crowd entertained... Say 250k prize if someone could make like three in a season or something?

Love Ronnie; great protest.

I doubt he's just thinking about himself.

He was making a point.

Just another social-media outrage storm being drummed up without people actually knowing the full facts...

The prize for a 147 is calculated on a rollover basis, with £5k added to the pot in each tournament. It's not as if that money just disappears and it gives someone else a chance to earn that £10k and more.

£10k might not mean much to Ronnie but the next guy that gets a 147 will be £10k richer due to Ronnie's actions...

I think O'Sullivan should think a little more about the people who provide the money for the prizes and the bonuses; namely the fans.

A lot of people watching would never have seen a 147, something special like a football hat-trick. It would have been the highlight of the day, especially since it was O'Sullivan, and something they would have remembered for ever. But he decided he knew best, and he didn't need such a paltry sum of money, and they went home disappointed.

I have little respect for the guy and I think he needs to get over himself.

It's not the point that the money rolls over.

It's the fact that good old rich Ronnie decided that it wasn't worth his while trying to entertain the fans, for most of whom £10k is presumably a large amount, because £10k is such a paltry amount to his wealthy self.

If he thought that then fair enough, but don't vocalise it you arrogant sod.
