I just can’t believe this might happen to Liverpool! This has Spurs written all over it but not Liverpool.

If the season cannot be finished then I do not see how the current positions can be declared final, Villa have a game in hand on their rivals at the bottom, a win gets them out of the bottom three either the season has to be finished properly or declared void.

Talk that Liverpool will be given title and Weat Brom and Leeds promoted to make it a 22 team league, next season 4 relegated and 2 promoted to get back to 20 teams.

Fuck knows what will happen with European qualification

Talk where? Some **** on Twitter?

Don't think it will be that simple there are eight levels of promotion and relegation in England once you start tampering at the top it has to go all the way down the pyramid

Got to delay it and continue in a few months surely? Can’t have 29 games meaning diddly squat. Doesn’t sit right.

Thinking about it I don't mind if the PL gives the league title to Liverpool. If they do then whenever Liverpool fans say they won the league everyone else gets to interrupt and say "actually you were given the league title. You didn't win it."

Brighton chief exec Paul Barber

"I think it's a possible option to leave the 20 teams in the league as it is but bring the top two in the Championship up.

"It gives us a larger league, with four relegation places next season and then two teams coming up again. It has some merit but there are a lot of issues to be worked through."

Looking at this situation overall..... first cases of C-19 in China were in November. Yesterday was the first day with no new cases, say another couple of weeks to be sure things have settled down.....that’s four months!!

first cases in UK were in March (ish) + four months = mid July. A couple of weeks prep so resume August? Play 10 games (mid Sept), players entitled to six weeks off and pre season starts November 2020.

Season 2020/2021 starts December?

This seems not unreasonable? Surely this season will be written off?

I’d suggest that it’s unlikely to last as long here because 1) so much more is known about it means both proactive and reactive measures will likely be far more effective, and 2) there’s overall a better standard of healthcare available per person.

I still imagine you’re right that the most likely/ realistic outcome is to cancel this season by the way.

You are largely correct but some unknowns. Firstly, first case in UK was early February (10th or 12th or something). Secondly,
China used force to control chain of transmission, UK uses kind encouragement but not rules and regulations. Thirdly, China is starting to get back to real life but they still have 10.000 active cases. So we don’t KNOW if two weeks to settle things is close to enough.

What happens to the championship though, no relegation? Because if clubs got sent down after 37 games the way WBA and Leeds will go up, that opens up all kinds of problems

There's a reason the league was cut down to 20 teams. Not a reason that would affect Brighton though, so why would they care.

I agree, I was looking at “worst case” really. Still can’t understand why you guys haven’t closed the schools and I’d have to say the UK government have been very slow to act! Cheltenham should never have been allowed to happen and allowing 3000 Spanish fans go to Liverpool was crazy!

Not sure if you watched Sunday Supplement today, they were figuring matches in April/May behind closed doors! Can’t see it!

Forget the Euros!!

If matches are played behind closed doors some fans will just gather outside the stadium. Especially Liverpool fans if they actually win the league! It’ll be carnage !

I think it’s becoming increasingly clear as I said few pages back that football will be the last thing on peoples minds the very bottom of the problem list (for those not involved in the industry or dependant on a wage). They certainly won’t be coming up with some elaborate way to complete the season. They will take the simplest option and cancel and void the season.

Plus no chance we will take draconian measures China did and they built new hospitals in 2 weeks.

this is not totally relevant though. China controlled it by totalitarian measures of forced isolation. Health care can only help with recovery not spread. It’s personal hygiene that’s more important as well as not getting overly close to others. I think the ideas on transmission has changed since it started in China.

Yep spot on. It's the social distancing measures that curtail the spread.
