More I watch it the more I laugh I can’t even understand what he’s trying to do....but I also don’t think gazza helps him out at all in goal

Has our collective nostalgia for him masked the fact that he was available for a pittance last summer and there were no offers?

He's certainly not the player of 3 years ago (but who is, I guess). We need this window to be our Van Dijk window and get in Koulibaly. Very football manager I know, but we're so weak back there right now.

And to think people were saying he was better than Ledley King. I chocked on fresh air.

For most of his time at Spurs he had Dembele Wanyama Dier wasn't required to defend much plus we had a better pressing game up top . All that taken away you are left exposed to show your true worth as pure defenders IMO Toby and Verts ( is actually slightly better) are poor at defending.
I used to think they were footballing CB but if you look at there contribution they never bring the ball out from the back, they play far to many balls side to side or just hit long balls hoping Dele runs onto one.

What I found more concerning yesterday was why is Toby 1v1, Serge and Jan didn’t even get beyond a jog to back up Toby. That’s a lack of desire right there.

This 1000%

Compare that with how Southampton and Arsenal defended yesterday. As soon as they lost the ball they were either aggressive in winning it back or quick to get back into a defensive position. Whereas we have players jogging back, slow to press or to lazy to get back into a defensive position.

We actually defended like this against Wolves but it's clear many of our defenders lack desire.

I want to see us take pride in clean sheets and see the passion they showed away at dortmund last season.

I absolutely love the reaction of Juventus defenders to blocking a cross for a corner, let alone a proper goal saving tackle etc. They should see a goal being scored as an insult, not as a inevitability

Ever since Toby got his new contract his performance levels have dipped it seems that many of them are too comfortable at the club, and for a lot of them there just isn't enough quality competition for places and that leads to performances like we are seeing.

He has been shit all season. He's over the hill and the most overrated centre back in the league. Tbh, I would like to see Tanganga and Sanchez play togheter. They will make mistakes, maybe even more than the belgians. But at least they are young and can improve.

Has he been perfect this season? No. Has he made mistakes? Yes. Is Toby also to blame? Yes.

BUT

If youre going to play with tactics that puts pressure on us then defenses will always make mistakes... pressure brings about mistakes. We dont help ourselves by this hoof ball or passing aimlessly or even the misplaced passes etc... It doesnt help that we start slugglishly. It doesnt help that we have no midfield or full backs to help out.

Any defence that has no protection and has to continuously defend is going to succeed... im a firm believe that defending is not just about the defence but the defence...

I just think we are proper shit at the moment and with shoddy tactics or shoddy implementation of tactics.

Loved his passion yesterday. He's back.
Was just about to say this - he's probably our most passionate player at the moment - loved how he riled the crowd around the time of the penalty incident.

He is celebrating every goal line clearance with fist pumps.

Bodes well.

There are a few players setting the tone for that at the moment. Did you see Winks when he got Zinchenko sent off?

Will not be popular to say here, but Dier when he came on got really stuck in and was very good too.

The spirit in the team right now is very impressive. Dare I say it, but the green shoots of recovery are just starting to show their heads...
