Modric could'nt play CM when he came to us so what did the manager do?

He bedded him in on the left because he knew and understood the dynamic such talents bring to a team.

Problem is Modric was a more flexible player who could play wide or in the middle.

N’Dombele appears to be a purely central player, although would probably benefit from playing in a proper midfield three with three proper midfielders (one of which being a specialist defensive midfielder).

In terms of DM; we need someone like ndidi to help this guy shine. Pure destroyer, but impossible to get.
I think we will go hard for Rice if Left Pork go down, but not sure that would be a good career move for him.

The shittest, yet best nickname I have seen for West Ham.

I giggled despite knowing it was hugely immature.

I honestly don’t know what compelled me, must have been the mention of rice as a foodstuff and my mind going halfway in executing the very poor pun to be had.

Been discussed mate. Both JJ and another (sorry can’t remember who) have said it’s not true. He is vying with GLC for the one spot until a proper DM is brought in to free both of them to play together

I don't believe he has told Mourinho that he never wants to play for him again but equally I don't think we're waiting for a proper DM to allow NDombele/Lo Celso to play together. This pure pie in the sky. Alli is Mourinho favourite and his inclusion means we have to play 4231.

While Jose obviously rates Alli, I don't think his spot in the team is guaranteed. If Alli keeps underperforming and we're not getting results, I think he'll get dropped for Lamela - especially given the job Lamela has done in the past 2 games.

Not a change in formation per se, but could potentially lead to Tanguy being tried in a 3 or as an AM.

Luka's outside of the boot range of passing is sublime I don't think there's many better (RM pulled our pants well down on his transfer fee and went in dry)
Criminally under appreciated by RM fans too (I don't know if they ever changed their tune on him)
Absolute gem of a footballer.

They totally changed their view of him

First half season they slated him but then after he bedded in and they realized how good he was he got the accolades

I think after his 1st season (or half way through like you said) he was widely considered one of the worst signings in the clubs history.

4 Champions Leagues and 1 Ballon D'or later...

As is always the case with Luka, Real Madrid fans loved him way before other fans and pundits caught on. Again, was considered complete rubbish for half a season, but has become a fan favorite ever since. What helped was when fans and pundits started realising that he wasn't an Attacking midfielder but a complete CM, no idea why that perception persisted when he hadn't played as an attacking midfielder in years (I guess he looks like an AM and is known for passing, but). He also won the award for best la liga midfielder in his second season, it was only that half a season where there was an issue.

Tanguy Ndombele's current priority is to stay at #thfc and the club do not want to sell him. He is enjoying living in London, he loves the stadium, he admires Daniel Levy as a chairman and gets on well with his teammates, especially Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli. | @TheAthleticUK

Tanguy Ndombele and José Mourinho's relationship is a confused one. Mourinho has aimed to help him but a reaction has not been forthcoming. Ndombele is disappointed at not playing but hasn't confronted the manager and remains focused on breaking into the line-up. | @TheAthleticUK
wow he is a BSoDL :cautious::cautious:

Hopefully we get a DM, but whoever it ends up being people will be displeased. Some want a sitter who anchors in front of the defence, some want an aggressive ball winner who makes those tackles which get a stadium off their feet, some want a technician who’s going to start attacks. Ultimately, my mindset is that any of these will improve us so whichever it ends up being, fine by me as long as Jose is happy.

Why not keep everyone happy and find the next Roy Keane ?
Can't imagine that would be too difficult, get on it Jose....

If we switch to 4:3:3 Dele can rotate/compete with gio and ndombele. He had a great season in midfield originally, maybe it can be rekindled.
Haven't given up on him, still a great talent there too
Sadly I can’t see Jose playing a 433. He seems determined to stick with a 4231 with the advanced RB. At least for this season. Clearly he won’t make any huge tactical changes right now, as he is trying to grind out some level of defensive consistency. That only comes from sticking to a particular system and everyone being drilled over and over again, until it becomes muscle memory. I don’t believe this poppycock about him needing a proper DM to play Ndombele and GLC in a midfield 3. He could play this way with Sissy as the anchor or Winks. Even if PEH joined tomorrow he wouldn’t suddenly switch to this new formation. He clearly wants to bed-in some form of discipline and make them much consistent on the defensive side of the ball. Which is the right thing to do, all things considered, as this team has been all over the shop defensively for the past 18 months.
Get this drilled into the team. Get Dier and Davinson playing regularly together. Get the 3 AMs more focused when defending, and that is the first domino to fall. As it is simply impossible to build confidence and a winning mentality when you constantly feel defensively vulnerable... which you can see, clear as day, in our players faces, each time they take the field. Granted it is not aesthetically pleasing, but you can’t get a clean bill of health without treating the underlying symptoms. Hence, why Ndombele is being held back, as he may not have the same level of discipline as the others... yet.

The most outragous thing about him is that 564 pages and 11277 posts into his thread and people still don't know how to spell his surname.

He’s the only person in todays pictures wearing full body covering and a seemingly woolen beanie on the hottest day of the year. It’s just a weird social misfit and cannot be rewarded with gametime. On the other hand he’s too talented to sell and take a major loss - and the precident cannot be set of agitation in the press and refusal to play getting traction...so it’s going to be a long war of attrition in the press. Maybe by year 3 he’ll present professionally because I don’t see us selling at a loss nor (correctly imo) do I see Mourinho coming further to accommodate him. He will eventually have to lose the pounds the clothes and the ghetto attitude because is ‘soldiers’ or nothing in a Jose system. For next year I think we’ll use Fernandez in the right of 3Cm position more.

Ndombele will not start until he shows positional discipline out of possession and is willing to cover an enormous amount of ground just to defensively keep the shape Mourinho wants. That is what Bergwijn, Lamela, Dele, Moura and Son all do. He is not trusted to be one on the 2 CMs in front of the back 4 as he takes too many risks in possession for JM's risk appetite.

What’s a ghetto attitude? How do know what his attitude is like?

He has 2 goals and 4 assists in limited appearences while trying to adjust to the new league, lifestyle and 2 different coaches. His stamina and defensive work aren't good at all but he had some great games for us and his worst performances aren't worse than some that Dele, Winks, Sissoko etc had. But if his attitude is bad then it's on him.

When has he had great games for us? He’s had some good moments but I can’t remember him have a great game for us.
