Yeah he's not purring yet, seemed a bit short of confidence today but he'll get there for sure.

He was tidy, didn’t really do much wrong but also didn’t really try much either. When he first joined he was running at players, taking chances, advancing play. Now he seems content just to pass back and playing ultra conservative. Would like to see him play with that free spirit again.

I believe he's got tight hamstrings atm which is why Mouhrino's doesn't start him and why he's playing within himself in regards to mobility. Getting back to full fitness. His quality on the ball is still great. He'll be back.

When he was playing in the Dutch league, he would run at players. Yesterday he got the ball but he just did a pass back and doesnt try to run at players.

He is playing very conservative.

Going backwards with his performances IMO. Perhaps it is a confidence thing combined with a lack of. Run of games in the starting eleven ?

I feel exactly the opposite. In his first games, he was clearly out of his depth, trying too hard and running around like a headless chicken, never in tune with the rest of the team. Now he has slowed down, and is starting to look like he gets the rhythmn of our game (and we are starting to look like there is a rhythmn there). He's a very solid player with good technique, pace and attitude, and keeps possession well. He's a useful player now, with the potential to be even better for us.

I have to say on the whole I have been really disappointed withhim his performances since joining. One or two flashes of what he can do but in general he has been poor. He also doesn't look in shape, maybe that is just the way he is built.

If the hamstring troubles are true, I'm not surprised he is struggling to shift gear. Can take a long time to get the muscles activating right again. Wouldn't surprise me if he is going through a new movement process to help protect them.

I do find us ineffective with him and Moura on the pitch together

I just hope he doesn't fall into the 'play it safe' category of a wide player, a bit like how Lucas has. His recent performances have been a little of that nature, but he certainly has the capability to produce a bit more than what he has done. We should be looking at him as a danger man, a threat to the oppositions goal, not a player who just keeps things neat and tidy. Still early though and without a doubt too early to write him off.

Agreed . However many here have recently stated that he's one of our best players . I never saw this myself . He's a good squad player imo .
Seems almost overawed to be playing atm , timid even . He has to address this ,especially with Sonny gone for a while .

Yea that brilliant goal on his debut against Man.city was awful and the goal against man.u after the restart and way he destroyed villa away etc he’s just been so awful ;)

Honestly some fans just seem to always need someone to complain about. He’s only bloody 23, he’s come to a new country and new league and he’s had a bad injury at the End of last season. He’s playing exactly as expected adapting to the team and league and style. But sure now Sonny is injured he should get more game time and hopefully he can start to produce goals and assists again like he was doing first few matches when he joined, I think he’s a player who feels his way into games and gets confidence from starting and so with regular games we will see good performances again, certainly a good player in there, absolutely no doubt about that.

As I said, one or two flashes of what he can do (the Man City and Man Utd goals were exactly what I had in mind).

Am I complaining about him? Did I say he was awful? I've just said that I have been disappointed in what he has produced so far and I don't think his performances have been very good. I watched him while he was in Holland and for his national team and I know what he can do but all i'm saying is so far his performances in a Spurs shirt haven't been great.

Yes he is young, yes he has joined a new team, yes he moved to a new country and yes he has had injuries but my opinion of him being pretty poor still stands. Thise things may very well be reasons why his performances haven't been great but they don't negate the fact. He is a very exciting prospect and I'm sure he will have a great future with us but for now I can only comment on the actual performances he has put in and as I say he has shown one or two glimpes of what he can do but overall I don't feel his performances have been very good.

He's not playing particularly that differently from last season. The main thing that has changed is initial positive confirmation bias has worn off. Last season he had some very good moments, but largely didn't really do a lot.

I like Steve though, he is technically a very good player and has a great shot on him and a burst of pace when he needs. He is 22 and the future is in front of him. Right now his role in the team is were it should be.

I shouldn't be, but I'm amazed at the lack of patience on display in this thread. Bergwijn has looked top-quality in flashes and has struggled with injury. So many forget that he suffered what was going to be a season-ending injury in the final match before the lockdown and was clearly managed carefully after the restart. Since the new season began we've had ITK that he has a hamstring issue. He's still new to the club and quite young, it's amazing how many seem to be writing him off.

His main issue is that he doesnt really get to play alomgside Son and Kane together. When he plays or comes on we rarely have an actual CF on or its late in the game. When Lucas is the other side he doesnt have much target.
