Actually still have him as our strongest right back at present. Have not been impressed by Doherty at all. Early days though.
if serge had a better brain he’d be a very good right back such a shame?

Tanganga will have to be really solid if we end up getting a <€20m fee for Aurier.

I know it was Shkendija, but what exactly does Doherty do better than Aurier other than attacking crosses in the opposition box? He’s adjusting to a back 4, sure, but that lack of pace and diving in against fast wingers has nothing to do with a tactical set-up. Isn’t Mourinho is all about second chances and tactical shake-ups to motivate players? I felt Aurier’s lack of competition last season made him a bit stale, but as a rotational piece keeping them both can allow them to play with full energy and use their strengths.
He´s better at being HG.

I'd say that in a game Aurier doesn't make a mistake that lead to penalty or goal against, then he's the superior player.
That's just what both fans and Mourinho seem to be fed up with though.
People might not like it, but Doherty is very close to Alan Hutton in quality in my opinion, just hope we keep him in better form.

Serge is a better crosser than the Doc and also quicker and better at beating his man on the outside.
Both are defensively suspect. I personally think a squad should have four specialist full backs and I am very happy for Serge to still be here in October but equally if you said Milan would pay 20 and we could get Aarons for between 15-20 m .........

How people can be blinded by this guy having a few decent matches vs europa league fodder and see him.as our best rb lol. This guy cant cross for anything how many times he got into good positions last year and 9/10 failed to beat the first man when it got blocked. He has far too many mistakes in him gives away stupid pens and is the reason alomg with davies why we have regressed. No other team in the top 6 has a worse pairing them aurier n davies. We need rid of him to raise funds for other targets

How many top six teams have a better pairing than docherty and Reguilon who are now our first choice pairing.

Well thats the hope they can be better thats why we bought them. Only liverpool and maybe man city are better. The rest have average full backs at best

Guys let’s be real for a second, doc has had next to no pre-season, was thrown straight into the starting 11 to play with players he’s never played with before under a new manager, let’s cut him some slack, I think over the season we will start to realise that having him and Serge will be very very useful.

Surprised at the optimism regarding Aurier. I too would be more than happy with him as backup, but the comments in this thread would be very different if he started for us from now and was at fault for a few goals, which wouldn't be too hard to believe.

Anyone else think it's worth keeping Aurier as a back up RB? I guess the problem is his value will diminish so I guess we need to sell but I think he'd be a great back-up as Tanganga is too limited going forwards to play regularly if Doherty gets injured

I was one of Serges biggest complainer but him as an alternative to share the work with Matt he starts winning me over.

I think it is worth keeping him as rotation.

I agree unless we have a buyer at a decent fee and a player ready to come in.

He was really good tonight. And with Reguilon it meant we weren’t always going down his the right and being really one dimensional, so he had more room to create. There was a few moments where he picked Reguilon out in a Liverpool fullback-to-fullback style cross. Really good stuff.

He’s not been my fav player, but the depth it brings having him and Doherty is massive. Really hope he stays.
