Lucas reminds me of Danny Welbeck. Don’t let him think and he’ll be fine. That’s why i dislike him because that clearly means his brain is his downfall.
Sadly with this team Lucas is a necessity. Urgency and covering is lacking from front to back so IMO he has to play despite how I feel.

What I don’t understand is, given that he’s the fastest player on the pitch, why does he never attempt to play on the shoulder of the last man and/or run in behind? He has blistering pace, but always wants to seem to come short for the ball and try and dribble past multiple players. He works hard for the team, and is at times capable of the spectacular, but he’s a really limited (and frustrating) player in my opinion.

Additionally, Lucas taking up positions deep and central doesn’t hurt teams and as a result they’re happy to let him take the ball and dispossess him (see Chelsea away last season where he had been dispossessed 10x at half time). I’d personally give Bergwijn a run at RW and see if it helps to balance our attack more.

You can't play football with players like Moura and Sissoko as they have no clue what they're going to do as it's dictated by their poor first touch.
Coupled with the fact that they have little appreciation for players around them and the fact that Dele and Son also suffer from coin toss control (to a lesser extent) and although they're more intelligent players how can we expect to construct anything of note against a well drilled team when the ball is bouncing around randomly?

The amount of misconstrols or passes behind players, passes too hard in circumstances where a weighted pass is required or too soft when a bit of zip is needed to break the lines. Or even just the wrong side of a man when a defender is that side.
It all makes for a painful watch that's totally reliant on the wide forwards creating.

It's the sort of football I hate TBH.
The only joy I get from us is when teams allow us to counter but we waste so many good counter attacking opportunities as well for the reasons above.

Nail on head. Moura, Dele and Son are an awful combination if you want any semblance of a footballing unit. Add in a midfield with Sissoko playing and that is just too many players with similar limitations. Looking like a long season if we serve up this dross and can’t find a way to upgrade that staring lineup quickly.

I don’t actually think he’s as fast as you think and he’s only fast in small bursts he’s now powerful like a bale or Zaha etc

He’s far too average to be starting for us I’ve said it for absolutely ages, think at one point last season he’d gone 6 months without a goal or something. Him and Lamela both need Upgrading.

21 straight league games without a goal. Has 3 assists in that time. Jose is happy with a winger that scores or assists once every 7 games right now.

Watching Lucas also makes me think that: He is able to do many things, but why he keeps playing in a wrong way.

He can track back and defend....great. His job is to assist and score. If he can't do that then he should be nowhere near the starting 11. Hes a good sub player for late in the game.

Didn't carry the end of season form into this one. Back to old Moura with diabolical touches and loss of possession.

What end of season form? Bloke got 2 assists since the restart - one of them being the pass to Kane for the wondergoal so that's hardly worthy.

The last time he scored in the league was mid-December and since then we've 3 PL assists and a couple of FA Cup goals, he must have the lowest output of any attacking player in the top half

Jose needs to end his obsession with Lucas and Sissoko. Both lovely guys and popular in the changing rooms but they kill the little football we try to play as they have zero awareness of their team mates. Lucas did OK at the tail end of the season as a defensive winger but Bergwijn is hardly lazy and is a much more rounded and less individual player. Hopefully he can do enough in the EL games to win Jose's favour, or Bale comes in and takes his place. The talent is clearly there with Moura but I don't think he'll ever get the football brain he needs to use his natural ability to the betterment of the team.

The part I’m confused with, when is the last time Moura ran down the right and put a cross in, this tactic to push RB is awful, about time Berg is given a go

Perfectly fine bench option, or starting material in some matches. Bergwijn should start, especially since we lack creativity.

The fact that Mourinho continues to use him over a talent like Bergwijn tells you everything you need to know about how finished Mourinho is.

He was awful yesterday. The decision to take Dele off and Move Moura there was the most questionable of Jose reign. I’ve lost trust in Jose today feeling very down about what he did yesterday in handing the game to Everton. Lucas doesn’t have the touch to play central, in the middle of the pitch where it is congested you need a good first touch and it bounces off him every time
