i get what you mean but we had rose and walker at their prime who are far superior to davies and aurier so i think we shouldn't blindly insist with inverted wingers now

The game has moved on, there's a reason no one uses traditional wingers anymore.

More than one way to skin a cat, I personally think that with high line full backs and defensive midfielders who split centre backs being the fashion and almost being exclusively used now (having really come to prominence at Peps Barca), we aren’t far from a top side and manager (so not Burnley and Dyche) turning the clock back to two strikers (even if one is a link man), two flying wingers and two full backs who are defenders first and attackers second, with the midfield pivot being one more attacking and one more defensive. Basically, Utd 99 (or even our team under Redknapp).

In fact, with the exception of Aurier bombing forward and Lucas/ Bergwijn tucking in, we pretty much lined up like this in both matches since restart, with Dele/ Lamela playing as high as Kane and Son very much getting chalk on his boots.

Like any formation, there is no reason why a 442 can’t work with the right personnel.

Impact player and a very good impact player at that ! However when he is a starter 9 times out of 10 it’s like playing with 10 men! Bergwijn needs to be the first choice

Lucas is the sort of player that every squad needs. He's mostly a 7 out of 10 with occasional flashes of brilliance, but critically, you get the sense that he won't really moan or kick up any kind of fuss if he doesn't play week in week out.

It's very easy to identify a world class player or go after the next hot prospect, but signing an effective squad player that doesn't actually mind being a squad player is much harder. If you look at the great United sides of the past, it was full of John Oshea's, Wes Brown's, Ji-Sung Parks and the like - none similar to Lucas in terms of style of play, more so their role and value to the squad.

Bergwijn and Son can't and won't play every game, and look no further than how Kane has been run into the ground in recent years. With the amount of games we've got coming up in short succession, and with fitness levels all over the place, he has a big role to play for us.

I blame Danny Rose

Awful player. Always gotta laugh every time people try to dig into Poch for not starting him in the final.

He deserved to start because he scored hat-trick to get us into the final and he was at the time the most in-form "forward" in our team. Harry was coming off his usual 2-3 month ankle injury and it showed.

Is he really any better than say Redmond from Southampton? Who I would actually love us to sign btw. Home grown. I think in a better team he would be brilliant. Better than Moura or lamela for sure.

I know Sissoko got slaughtered for lumping that ball out for a corner but did no one see the five yard lay off from Moura that caused it? He never ever has the football under control even when running at defenders. His intelligence on a football field is of a 6 year old.

Yes he gave me the most exciting night of my life and the wife knows it but if the rumours are true Napoli want him then sell him.

No he isn't but because he is Brazilian it makes him sound better.

Now imagine if that was Dele (this does not excuse Dele but you catch my drift)

Infuriating footballer. Yet another who blows hot and cold.

Unfortunately we have that problem throughout the squad. We have far too many players who are not comfortable on the ball. That makes for a very frustrating team.

Been like that for quite a while.

It's been a while since I felt this way about Spurs haha!

Haha yep! Around 2003/4 was probably the last time I felt like that our team was this poor. We have good players individually but as a team we really are pretty crap.
Won't be long before they're all being sold off in the red tops ... Good old summer hols!
