Starting to sound like arsenal fans about Wilshire against Barca amount of times this Madrid game gets brought up
It was an example and because I'm sure everyone here remembers that game more than others that's why used it.

He had plenty of top games playing higher up the pitch or with more freedom to roam.

Name them ? Your talking like he is outstanding going forward or when playing higher how many assists and goals does he have then ? Average to say the least

Fairly confident the current version of Skipp can offer what Winks does with the strong potential of more given a run of games. Winks just looks like a guy who knows its a matter of time before he is found out.

Wanted him to do well and push on once he got in the side but as already mentioned, he shirks responsibility imo.
i hope there is a clause in his loan deal to get skipp back in January we really need someone whos not afraid to pass the ball and get stuck into tackles. winks has never for me been a player who can play like a pirlo and dictate games he is suppose to retain possession for the side but cant even do that. i wouldn't start him for awhile until he fixes up but i doubt he can. he was already worried about mourinho coming in from the documentary which shows what type of character he has

Nice try but they still won't get it.

Joking aside Winks along with many of the squad need to take a good long hard look at themselves. They've simply not been good enough amd Winks is no exception. But like I said there are others in this squad that should be going first in order to refresh the squad.

That's Lamela, Rose, Foyth, CCV. Even Sissoko.

Levy needs to pull his finger out here.
You could say ‘ we are f’d’ ?

winks was poor today but I think what is poorer is he is still being played in a position that is not where he plays. He is a link player not a deep playing playmaker or defensive midfielder if we aren't going to play a possession based game he has no place in the team but i'm not going to slag him of because its not his fault we aren't playing a style of football that utilises the obvious qualities that he does have (great engine, good athleticism, touch and ability to keep possession and the ball moving but not as the incisive chance creator or the main ball winner) I will slag off Ben Davies though he is just the ultimate beige footballer and he is dog shit has no place being first choice left back in the premier league for any team let alone a team consistently finishing in the top 4 (well top 6 now if we are lucky)

I spoke in another thread about players not taking responsibility and passing it onto others and he is the prime culprit. He has a fucking shit mentality to match his actual footballing ability.

The amount of times he's received the ball in acres of space and, instead of attempting a forward pass, he's palmed off the responsibility of getting us up the pitch to Hojbjerg or a defender. Which usually resulted in Hojbjerg misplacing a pass or a defender hoofing it out of play or back into opposition possession. No fault of Winks' though, right? He did his bit. Or not. Surely he realises he is the midfielder who needs to knit the midfield to the attack?

Piss-poor mentality and frankly if we got a stupidly high offer for him, for God knows what reason, we should be selling ASAP.

Never rated him, Always thought he was average and mr safe pass, but he’s loved on here mostly on the back of 1 decent game against Madrid and that “he’s one of us”.
Ask yourself, would he get into one of the other “ top 6” teams? He wouldn’t even get into Everton’s, Leicester or Wolves for that matter. Anything north of £20m and I’d sell.

Seems a long time ago when he bossed Real Madrid.

Needs to take some responsibility in his game and become a leader on the pitch and not someone who passes the buck for others to make things happen.

I like winks and he has ability and the potential but games like today makes him look out of his depth looking only for a safe or back pass. He had oppotunities to get the ball moving forward but he looked like he chose the safe option and not lose the ball. He was as much as fault as most of the players trying to slow the ball, take touches, look around not knowing where to pass then just passing it back. It was a not a great day for him, but you cant blame just him today it was collectively lacking by the whole team.

He has those qualities... for a championship side. No team will finish top6 with Winks (or similar) starting. If a nº8 doesn't know how to play double pivot, he can only be a rotation player, no more than that.

All the best for the boy, but not enough quality.

Almost certain that Tom Carrol was a more threatening player. The amount of times winks passes to Davies is unbelievable. Both average players who shouldn't close to starting games for us. We had a lot of talented midfield products who never got a chance under poch, and yet winks somehow did when he can't play a damn forward pass.

Just fucking LOL at some of the opinions here.

Some people need to be seriously self-reflective. Maybe ask themselves, ok, two managers who are considered two of the best managers in the world have continued to select him when other options were available. Why is that? Think about what role he's being asked to play and then ask if he's fulfilling that remit, instead of just judging him against expectations of what you think he should be doing.

Me, personally? I get it. His job is to retain possession with simple passes when the team is out of shape and allow them to get back into possession. He's generally cautious with his passing because as we saw from three or four Ndombele stinkers later on, losing the ball in that part of the pitch simply in the name of "fucking pass it forward" can leave the team seriously exposed. When he does have the opportunity to play through the lines, but he generally only does when it's a high chance that possession will be retained.

As for the game last night, he was ok. He did his job, and then when we needed a bit more impetus he was taken off. I will note, however, that after he was taken off we lost our shape and we continually got countered against when we did so. Again, a large part, but not all of it, is because we didn't have Winks in there playing simple passess to steady the midfield.

Honestly, "wah, wah, all he does is pass it sideways and backwards" is just a facile, lazy analysis. If you don't get it then look at your own understanding, not anything else.

The question is does anyone think hes good enough to be a starter? I personally don’t but thats my own opinion!
I agree that he's not performing well enough to be a starter. But previously in different systems he has been.

I like Winks a lot. But we need someone more dynamic and aggressive next to PEH. I do think GLC is a good potential partner. He has fight and is very competitive (I remember seeing a YouTube teammate vid where a few of the lads mentioned GLC’s the player that most hates to lose), he’s a bit of a bast*rd, and moves the ball vertically, whether by carrying it forward or passing through the lines. All of these things I’d argue Winks is lacking, and all of which we need. Winks isn’t right for our system. But he’s a good player.
