Winks is so amazing at passing backwards to dier who will stand still for 3 seconds. Then pass to Toby to hoof the ball forward. Watching Oliver Skipp For Norwich yesterday. I’m confused why he’s gone out on loan.

Today shows how much we need creativity in midfield, or at least someone quick enough to make the transition forward. Looking at James for Everton today was painful knowing that’s the type of player we’re crying out for. Someone to get their head up and open a defence

Winks doesn't have a spot in this team.
If we are going to sit back and give up possession then winks won't give us anything.

I have to be honest and really hoped that Winks would come good for us however it is clear to anyone that he just isn’t very good. He is one of those run of the mill centre midfielders who can kind of do most things ok but nothing great.

If we looked at it in reality and see if he would get in any other top 10 side, the answer is a resounding no. Hojbjerg is coming in for criticism today but he had to do the work of 2 men in there.

Not sure I agree. I think he is a fine player that played out of position last season and played poorly today. I'm a long way from throwing in the towel with him.

I don't want to get rid of him. I think he would be a good squad player, but needs to be in a team that controls possession.

If we give the ball up easy and sit back, can't see it working out for him.

Winks is putting full brakes on his development for not daring to pass the ball forward, he always choose the safe option, and that makes our forwards stand still as they never know when the ball will go forward. If you do not have a creative midfielder that want to thread the ball thru lines, the forwards will also look like statues.

winks often looked great earlier on in his career because there was always a forwards option available and he was good at picking the pass to find them, whether it's a hesitancy from him to take risks in possession or a lack of option going forward which forces him backwards i'm not sure, but his regression over the past two seasons has been significant

If he is too scared to pass forward he doesn’t belong in the prem. I’d rather watch ndombele miss place 3 passes going forward than winks. Passing back to dier to stand still 3 seconds later pass to Toby and hoof it forward all game and lose possession

I honestly thought they would compliment each other a lot better than that. One of the worst performances I've ever seen from a spurs midfield duo.
two of a kind mate - Winks just doesn't have a future at the club and I haven't seen any real progress since he came on the scene, but hey he's homegrown, so media bias and all that jazz.

Never particularly been a fan of Winks but will cut him some slack on today's game as it seems he has not been involved in some of the preseason games and maybe even training. However saying that, I'm not convinced we would have seen anything different from him even if he had. Seems a nice enough fella but he just doesn't bring enough to the table for me and don't see any edge to his game.

Can certainly live with him in the squad but nothing about him shouts first team regular to me.

When Hojbjerg is the more likely of the two to make forward passes you start to really question what winks does. One touch, two touch, three touches and back to Dier. The fact that Dier will try a stupidly hard pass straight after shows how little range winks even has with his passing. I’ve noticed he can’t switch the play. How can the tempo guy not switch the play????

I remember if the 1st half when Winks attempted to cross the ball into the box... it was like a 7 year old hoofing the ball with his wrong foot. Beyond short range passing he lacks the power and accuracy to do anything longer or penetrative. His passing is limited, he can’t cross for toffee and his shooting is abysmal.
