Agree both that Lo Celso is better deeper and good skillet a bit wasted that close to the forwards, and also that he can do whatever Winks can but with more attacking purposes, but as said elsewhere I think you’re wrong to denigrate Winks performance yesterday.

I know this isn't the Winks thread but what exactly did Winks do well vs. Newcastle?

It isn't hate on Winks at all I just want way more for my number #8.
It isn't enough just to keep the ball rolling with 5 yards passes for a top4 team. They way he got turned Scott-Parker style by Lacelles and Joelinton (? by the corner flag with Doherty) was laughable I actually almost threw up. Stick a foot in ffs!! And that's just some examples. He was better in the last 10 minutes when he actually played two good long passes, but that was about it.

It was laughable - what the "#"&%% was Doherty doing?

As for Lo Celso - all players got poor games. Anyone see him as a DM for PSG might think twice about that being his best position.

Personally I don't think we got any player especially suited for an old school AM role. A bit odd that we are now playing with one.

Then again, even if Lo Celso was individually poor, we played really well in the first 45 yesterday so something certainly worked.

Agreed, I love Gio but Tanguy did 100% do more in his short cameo yesterday in terms of attacking input.

As suggested, moving forward a midfield three of Hojbjerg and Lo Celso behind an advanced Ndombele is a very exciting thought.

Behind a front three of Son, Kane and Bale is a ridiculously exciting prospect.

Would love to see that 4-3-3 going forwards but even yesterday it was 4-2-3-1

Crazy to compare people who come on for a few minutes at the end of the game with starters. It’s so much easier when others are tired to put in a cameo.
Also it shows non understanding of
The blindingly obvious instructions the team is under to play safe and not take risks for the first hour to 75 minutes in games. JM plays safety first and then maybe allows more scope at the end if necessary or just locks down even further. No player will be given a free role

I don't think Lo Celso played it safe - he just miss placed close to all of his more adventurous tries.

I don't mind. He is on the pitch to try those kind of passes. All players got off days - especially this early in the season.

I liked his progressive passing into the forwards feet, even when they were marked, I liked the amount of times he switched play, i liked his tenacity off there ball in shutting down passing lanes for the opposition and I liked his constant showing for three ball.

Don’t get me wrong, to my mind I want a three of Højbjerg, Lo Celso and Ndombele ultimately, with Winks essentially first reserve who coupe come in for any of them, but yesterday I felt our play benefited from a good performance from him.

He wasn't poor at all :)

Agree to disagree.

I thought Højbjerg did all of the above better + more, so I just question Winks role in all that.

I might wanna do some clips for you to show what I mean, if Winks plays besides Højbjerg he has to offer something else than show for the ball and pass it sideways. Look at Thursday, not even against a such poor opponent he can shine.

That this is what you saw yesterday suggests we aren’t going to find common ground here, so I think let’s just leave it at that.

I fucking love how feisty he is. No doubt every British pundit thought he would be an absolute pushover when we signed him, but his ability to put himself about really compliments the more aesthetically pleasing side of his game.

The outside of the boot ball over the top to Son who then hit the crossbar?

Why are people claiming he was poor. He was very very good second half and was all over the pitch. He links the game superbly. I think he tired around 60 mins but he had zero pre season.
people feel ndombele did better.... they both did great. Ndombele was flashy and wonderful to watch but they both played well.

Glc and Ndombele are very different players, but playing together they empower each other and can lead the team. Glc makes the team play well and Tanguy is more striking for his movements, but they both need to play together and we will see the best of them.

Im not sure Jose is at the stage where he trust both to start from a defensive point of view, hence why he picks Winks all the time, hopefully he does though !

GLC is a quality player you can tell but i do feel he does need to impose himself in games more - always on the periphery of the game. Also needs more output particularly in terms of creative assists etc

Its not so much a criticism than an observation and im sure he would say the same thing.

Having said that he strikes me as the guy who would assist the assister - I can imagine him passing to Ndombele who would then play the assist

I do think it is about time we played PEH, GLC and Ndombele - cant be saying that we want to see this but never adopting it. I just cant see Jose actually doing that but I dont know.

Best thing about GLC is that a 'poor' performance from him always seems to be 6/10. When the likes of Alli, Son and Kane are poor it's usually a 1 or 2.

Reading the posts on this forum you would think he is the next David Silva or something. Don't get me wrong, he's decent, that's about it. He just about stands out in a horridly bland midfield.

Anyone else feel like the pitch was slow yesterday? Not sure if GLC was putting enough pace on his passes for some through balls but they didn't seem to zip on the service like they usually do. Maybe it was me but it didn't seem to be watered to what we usually do.

In that respect he's everything Eriksen never was.
