My biggest fear now is that we'll reach a deal with Betis and then Levy will try for a Brucie Bonus and cock the whole thing up.

My fear is that people will just make shit up and assume that he did, no matter what the facts are.

We’ve always had long drawn out transfers in the past, but why is this particular transfer just seem so damn painful!!!

Exactly this.
Bull. We need the players to compete at the top. We don't need highbrow principles in the transfermarket and we also won't do a Leeds (which happened 15 years ago by the way) if we overpay by 5-10 million. Just so long as we bring home the transfer targets.

That's what Poch means by big club mentality. Sadly, Levy's mindset still appears to be stuck in cornershop land - endlessly haggling and doing lengthy standoffs - all in the knowledge that the vast majority of these protracted transfer battles end in defeat... The mind boggles.

What people don't comprehend is that if this was a pure business Levy would be doing an amazing job, but this ain't, and his shenanigans have hindered as much as they've helped.

If you want the most successful business, we're nearly there, if you want a succesful football team, sometimes you have to sacrifice pure business

I don't disagree with that in principle. There is a level of sacrifice that has to be taken. That being said, unless you're Man City it's not just 'Pay the price.'

Yeah, every club has a difficult deal once in a while, but it seems more frequent with us.

Last summer we tried to sign Grealish from the Championship, Sessegnon from a newly promoted side and Zaha from a lower/midtable pl club. Couldn't get any of them over the line.

In retrospect we're probably glad it went the way it did, but at the same time those were our targets in that moment of time. This year it's the same thing with GLC, and god knows what's happening with Sess.

Honest question, does it seem more frequent with us just because you're actively following our transfers on a step by step basis? I'm sure Liverpool experienced a lot of ups and downs with the Fekir link last season and there was probably a lot of ITK's and media reports with that one. You've got Arsenal and Tierney having all their up and downs and this isn't the first time for them. I think it's just cause you're a spurs fan on a spurs forum following a spurs transfer saga that it seems like it's more frequent with us compared to others. Though more than happy to be proved wrong.

By all accounts it’s Betis doing the haggling. And by haggling I mean upping an agreed price. No sane chairman in European football would just bend over & accept that.

Unless I've missed something (quite possible) that hasn't been confirmed - has it? The more likely scenario IMO is the simplest one: that Betis have a ballpark minimum asking price and so far we haven't agreed to pay it.

Do ALL the other teams have chairman with a certain reputation. He’s bound to have questions asked, defending him is one thing but being blind to the fact that he brings a lot of it into himself is another.
Why is this ringing alarm bells as you have pretty much ducked the anti levy sentiment this window...any reason you are jumping in now?

And the point was made that as we all follow our transfers more closely than we do clubs we don't support the perception is always going to seem that we have trouble doing deals. When in fact every club will have difficulty.

We seem to be having a circular conversation...if you re-read what I wrote you will see that I never said other clubs do not have their own difficulties signing players.

The fact that we stand alone in being the only club to ever not sign a player during a the summer transfer window backs this perception up. You don't have to forensically follow other clubs' transfer activities to know that is something quite exceptional.

Only that it’s ridiculous to totally ignore that sometimes how he does things can be counter productive and it’ll understandably get a reaction, the new stadium doesn’t make that disappear

That's the whole point of it. It's the text equivalent of putting on a stupid voice.

I am sure the Le Celso deal will go through before the window closes, Betis have already signed his replacement and they probably want this deal to go through as much as us ! lol. The delay is frustrating tbh but there is no point in blaming Levy as it might well be Betis that are playing silly buggers. Just Imagine a midfield with Eriksen, Winksy, N'Dombele and Le Celso !
