Ndombele is not a DM, I've watched him for 2 years. He is an all round CM who can play deeper in midfield but he is not a DM.

When he plays in the double pivot, his best role is similar to Dembele, the one who has slightly more license to push on and transition.

So can he play in the DM position? Yes.

Does it get the best out of him? Certainly not.

The conversation was about fitting Lo Celso into a team with Eriksen and NDombele
And I said NDombele could play DM with Lo Celso as the CM

No it's TRUE Grealish would not have been an Eriksen replacement and Lo Celso was a similar type but Grealish was around a 20 mil buy it so at that point not 60 or 70.
Also Dembele was gone and we needed more bodies in midfield and he would have been the de facto CM probably with two DMs behind him.
Now we have NDombele. He now is the CM.
With all the players we have now in front of NDombele do we need Lo Celso if Eriksen stays?

I accept that we need more creativity. 100% we do and I think either it's the system or it's the players but we should be getting more creativity out of Dele and Lamela (I know the injuries but they are not injured now)
Buying Lo Cemso has to me to be linked to Eriksen.
As I mentioned above we could play NDombele as the DM and LoCelso as the CM but I'm not sure in the defensive side of it works

Last year we clearly didn't want to overspend on Grealish and were still being cautious in the market.

This year we have the CL final run money plus any money from last summer to spend plus sales, so we can afford to be more ambitious, hence we are willing to pay around £50/55 mill for Lo Celso.

In summary I think it's pretty clear Lo Celso has replaced Grealish as the number 10 type player we've wanted to add to the squad for 2 summers now and that isn't as a replacement for Eriksen.

Worth bearing in mind we've wanted Ndombele since last summer when we were also in for Grealish, so Grealish wasn't the Dembele replacement, he was a versatile 10 we were looking to bring in to add flexibility and depth to our creative options.

Yes but City are a team with a myriad of stars. If they has a weaker player that's no the end of the world. Our double team didn't have all stars. The backs we ok not the best,Dyson was not a world class player,Les Allen wasn't a household name.
We have Kane Son Moura Dele Lamela and Eriksen and would have Lo Celso too

I think that applies as a myriad of stars tbh. Not to mention Ndombele, Vertonghen, and Lloris. Lamela as 6th choice AM looks pretty solid to me, let alone the option of Sessegnon as 7th

Aguero - Kane - Firmino - Giroud
De Bruyne - Eriksen - Salah - Willian
Sterling - Son - Mane - Pedro
Jesus - Lucas - Origi/Brewster - Abraham/Batshuayi
Bernardo - Lo Celso - Shaqiri - Pulisic
D.Silva/Foden - Dele/Sessegnon - Lallana/Ox - Hudson-Odoi
Sane or Mahrez (one likely to leave) - Lamela - Wilson - Mount

Pretty damn competitive considering the difference in budgets (City unreal). Assuming we get Lo Celso and Sessegnon and keep Eriksen I'd love our attacking depth. That'd be more than enough to compete on 4 fronts IMO.

First of all NDombele played DM at Lyon.
He can play any of those positions but it wasn't an answer in itself as it was based on Lo Celso coming and Eriksen being the AM.It was another option.
For me Lo Celso looks like more of an AM. How is Lo Celsos tackling?

Ndombele can play DM because he is a 6/8 but he plays the 8 role more and if you want to get the best out of him it is as a box to box. Winks would most likely adopt the 6 role next season.

He’s a two way player. The brute force defensive midfielders have become unpopular bc everyone’s looking for a Yaya Toure type midfielder now, one who on paper can do it all. Look around, Rodri and Ndombele just came to the Prem, LFC have Wij, I think Sarri thought he could make Kante that etc

He's got 679 forum posts - wonder how many of them don't just say the same thing but worded differently
