Wasn't it in the post match he said himself that this is like a mini preseason for him and it will be a few weeks before he starts going fully?

Think he said in an interview hes not the same as before, we won't see him running up and down the pitch for 90 minutes. So I would imagine he would control his runs and pick his moments. Probably due to fitness/age.

I don't know if it was me reading it wrong, but I kinda loved that at 60mins when he kinda knew he'd be done for the day and was about to come off, that he just seemingly tried to shift it up a little and get a goal before he came off.

Expected a month minimum for him to regain some kind of form or fitness so I’m not overly worried we don’t have the WC player we know him to be yet. These early EL are perfect for him to do that with the odd PL sub appearance thrown in.

Looked rusty but can only gets better with minutes under his belt. The quality is still there.

Two things that I noticed:

1. Doherty or whoever is playing as RB needs to release the ball sooner. I felt that sometimes he was ready to make a run but the ball didn't come.

2. He is controlling his runs, not sure if it is the lack of match fitness or afraid of an injury.

I think it is his intelligence.

Bale is a very intelligent player and intelligent players need time to process the factors around them. I agree that his fitness surely isn't where it needs to be but his actions and the delay in his reactions to certain situations suggested deliberation, as opposed to not being physically capable of handling them. Over time, he'll calibrate and become more familiar and comfortable with playing with his squad mates.

Doherty on the other hand looked uncomfortable which is a more concerning sign. Our right side was really weak against LASK until Moura shifted to RW.

Just watched this. Brought back a lot of memories.

My two immediate thoughts were :

1) It’s so easy to take things for granted. Looking at the crowds, like everyone at the moment I miss the normal world I knew before Covid.

2) As amazing as our new stadium is, I miss White Hart Lane.

Other thing I noticed with Bale in this game was being played into him which often meant he had to cut back (away from goal) rather than cutting in off the wing toward the goal. At times it looked like he was a left back attacking our goal the way he was moving and it’s probably because he lacked confidence in his legs to go past his man. Now if he had more creative passers around him like Ndombele, Kane and Lo Celso he might have had more balls played into the space in front of him which he then could have had more chance to get a running start toward their goal and be more of a threat. He didn’t look totally comfortable on the right but I think he’ll get there.

He's not 1/2 of the player that he used to be

It is a harsh truth but age does not forgive anyone

give him some time to get back to fitness and we'll see.

it make sense ofc that he won't be as good as he once was because of age but he still should improve.

I would like to know how a player can get back the fitness if he barely runs but ok
