This. The idea that our fans have suddenly turned into something else is nonsense. Of course there are simply more there now that the capacity has gone up.

I think those that think it’s changed either haven’t had ST that long are just looking back in a slightly rose tinted way.

A significant proportion of football fans are ( and have always been ) pissed up, thick *****..... and if they are not pissed up, thick ***** in the rest of their lives they certainly turn into them as soon as they go within a few miles of a football stadium.

Ive refused to take a girlfriend to a spurs match before because I couldn't justify the inevitable chanting about Wenger having Madeline mccann and general abuse she would hear.

I just accept it is standard because I've grown up going to matches, but it is actually cringeworthy to think how it looks when football fans start aggressively taking over town squares etc. England fans are by far the worst for it.

The lane wasn't great at times, I think you're rewriting history a little bit mate.

Remember back to the AVB days and I distinctly remember when people used to lose their shit when we weren't playing fast tempo football, even when Poch first arrived the atmosphere was dull.

It only takes a good performance to get the crowd off their seat no matter what stadium you play in, I just think so far we're suffering from a hangover and the fans are bored/pissed off and expecting us to play well.

Well, just feel if we were in the old stadium, a hard crunching tackle would more easily turn the atmosphere.

I just miss it.

I want to take one of my kids to a game but there’s no chance I’m doing it this season. Hopefully Kane stays with us next season (I think he will) else he’s going to be gutted not to see him play for us. I can’t take him to a game at the moment though. It’s horrible and I don’t want to put him off.

Same with our 'fantastic' away support. If you've ever done away games the reality is a sizeable number of them are just absolutely blotto and whilst that leads to screaming their lungs out for 90 mins and it sounding decent on TV, there is also some terrible stuff that goes on.

@Shadydan is correct, the atmosphere was often flat especially during the 90s/00s. But yes in the last season or two, it was electric but that was partly sentimentality and because we were terrific. The feeling in the south stand lower when Kane scored the worldy against the scum and removed his mask will stay with me forever. We didn't win though. Spursy.

I don't love where I sit (north upper) in terms of atmosphere and the bell end count (me included?) but it's decent for a new stadium and when I was in the South lower for Olympiakos it was very good. I have had good nights already against City twice and seeing Son obliterate Burnley but I take your point it is hard to enjoy it when we are seeing poor results/performance.

Ultimately we had to move to be a viably top club and I believe Levy/the club has done a lot right to balance that need for revenue with keeping the old atmosphere/feeling.

What I find difficult to understand is when it’s men in their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s etc. Ok, it’s still not justified acting like a **** when you’re younger, but we can all look back on how we behaved as young men and cringe a bit. Some of these supposed grown men need to do just that and grow up.

Earlier this season whilst walking up Worcester Ave a bloke just decided it was a good idea to go up to a copper and scream “yids” in his face. Proper nose to nose. This was a grown man ( not that I would have even done anything that pathetic as a 20year old).

The policeman just laughed, but I would have really liked it if he’d smashed the guys head in with a truncheon.

Sadly they have the history to back it up. I know we have our own history of sorts, but winning just 2 "major" trophies since 1991 is a fucking embarrassment whichever way you want to dress it.

Certainly can see many times I've probably thought I was being a charmingly amusing football fan engaging in songs and banter on the train to a match but absolutely looked like a pissed up bell end. That football fans are a rowdy bunch will never change.

But I never veered into 'in your face look at me I'm 'ard and offensive' mode. And you're right it's often guys who will probably get back and spend the rest of the afternoon with a grandkid on their knee.

Yeah I haven’t done away matches for 15 years, but I used to a fair bit in the 90’s.

I remember when we lost to Everton at Elland Road in the FA Cup SF and sitting on the coach watching a poor Everton fan getting the shit kicked out of him from several Spurs fans. No one really batted an eye lid though.

Maybe yeah, although sounded like something that's been building up for a while. It's probably

When you build a 60.000 + stadium and you intend to fill it, that's not going to be with "real" supporters because most actual supporters can't afford to go so often that between them the stadium will be full in the weekends and almost full on a Wednesday night vs. Norwich. At times, for instance midweek in a tournament that could have been winnable, in a extra difficult period, it wouldn't be a stupid thing to block corporate tickets and set prices so low that you fill the stadium with for instance fans who live in the neighbourhood.
