Would not be surprised to see him called back up to the National team. His form has been pretty good for the last few games and he's now pushing his way in front of Bayern's regular starters.

Doesn't that tell you all you need to know about the standard of that league? ;)

And then the form falls off a cliff.

Was only 18 months ago that he did the same here. He’s not a bad player, certainly nowhere near as bad as he’s made out to be on here.
I think some honestly believe/d that he is the Championship level player that they were touting him as. Meanwhile, he's starting CL games for Bayen Munich :bored:

He's just not an adaptable player for me. In the right system with the right players around him he is very effective which is why he's currently doing well. In the wrong system and tactics he's a liability.

Conte was a unique time for us - by the time he left town the football was so sludgy and boring and results stank that we had, probably, four or five scapegoats on the go at once. It's a reflection of the short term nature of modern football and the fans - I still recall a time when most teams were lucky to have two great players, where squad players were much more important.

I would imagine most modern fans would find football from the 80s + 90s massively frustrating and probably a bit dull.

Dier's issue isn't necessarily his ability.

A lot of CBs can be quite slow or awkward on the turn. Terry wasn't nimble and a lot of old school CBs weren't either.

So whilst Dier was easy to press it wasn't the biggest issue.

When Jose was here, he was admiring Dier's physical characteristics with his assistant (on AON docuseries). And Jose has coached the best.

The biggest issue was his focus and awareness. Far too often he leaves balls for others or fails to shut off the right pathway for an attacker.

If Dier could have done that, he would have been a top CB.

Could say that about a lot of players though, look at Bale - we called him Jonah on here, he couldn't buy a win with us for a while, then he moves up the pitch a few yards and the formation shifts a wee bit and there it is.

Personally, I'd have preferred to see Eric in front of the back four as DM, holding the centre, but that role didn't exist so on he moves and best of luck to him, I'm stoked he's doing so well.

Isn't this a bit revisionist? He's played in a deep-lying back 3 and 4 with 2 DMs sitting in front and he still just seemed to switch off far too often. Yes he can look very good and has many skills managers would like but when you're limited in what systems you can play in AND have a tendency to lose focus it isn't a great combo. Maybe being at a club like Bayern will help with the focus part for a bit but I think a lot of the criticism he gets is balanced and fair.

No need to revise Diers ability up or down.

He looks good playing in a weak league for one of the strongest sides where he is not exposed as often.

Not a terrible player either

Ultimately no top 6 side in the PL would be interested in his services I think at this point
