The Athletic/Ornstein reporting that he’s not in the squad for Burnley tonight. Pinch of salt may be needed but not a good sign for DA.

This seems to be the media’s new thing to report. It’s really not even news at this point. Dele hasn’t been himself for nearly 2 seasons now. Who does he deserve a spot for on the bench let alone the starting XI? Genuinely nobody.

He can either do what Mourinho is MASSIVELY HINTING AT and stop posting stupid shit on social media and focus on his football, or continue to not play in games that matter. It seems right now he’s more interested in his social media image.

If Dele was even to make the bench, he'd have to be proving himself to be better than the other three attacking options on it. At this point that would be any 3 of Bale, Bergwijn, Vinicius, Lamela and Lucas. Why should he then make the bench automatically considering the recent form of Lamela and Lucas?

His best chance now is in the EL with the huge bench. If he proves himself in those games i've got no doubt Mourinho will give him more chances in the league.

Well we've been crying out for ages for players to have competition and now they have it. If dele wants his place back he needs to work hard.

Can't see him playing in the PL anymore unless we get an injury crisis. Why would we want him back slowing down the play.

Todays bench may be something like: Hart, Aurier, Alderweireld, Lo Celso, Bergwijn, Bale, Vinicius

(mix and match with Lamela, Lucas or Sissoko as you please). Competition is steep, but Alli has a broad enough skillset (contrary to belief) that he'd be able to force himself ahead in the pecking order. All about working hard and taking his chances.

Personally don't read too much into the body language before he came on. Thought he showed some nice moments when he came on and could maybe push for a start on the Europa. Don't think its enough for him to be in contention for the PL squad yet though.

Realistically there will be 5/6 attackers selected for the PL games. Kane and Son are guarantees and Carlos takes a bench spot. This means there is one starting place and two bench options from Bale/Lamela/Lucas/Stevie/Dele. A lot of work for him to break into the team when you look at it like that, he's got the ability just needs the attitude and application.

This is half the problem though, he doesn't work hard. Certainly not hard enough to negate his limited ability.

Jose’s spelled it out repeatedly this week. Dele’s is much more of a social media influencer than he is a footballer. While id like him on the bench over the 2 really poor CM options, at least they seemingly actually focus on their football which is far more than you can say for Dele.

And this is no longer news. But the media needs something to report and focus on in there never ending quest to cause unrest at Spurs and unrest around Jose.

Agree with this, if you don't start him he does seem a little bit redundant on the bench.

If you need to score the likely change is bring Carlos on and have two strikers. If you are looking to see out a game Lucas and Lamela work far harder. I don't really see Dele as an impact player from the bench so he needs to be playing well enough to start or he will not make the match day squad for me.

Unless injuries or suspensions this will be the norm for him in the league this season. And rightly so imo. It's no coincidence that we've become more of a free scoring team since he's been out of the starting lineup, slowing down the play and coasting through games.

As an impact player I'd much rather have Lucas /Lamela/Bergwijn on the bench.

It's a shame for him that the subs rule that was put in place temporarily at the end of last season didn't remain.

I keep saying it but Dele's just not good enough in the position he plays. He wants to float around, do some tricks on the edge of the box and occasionally run into space for a goal. That's a luxury position and to accommodate that kind of player they have to be world class. He's not.

He's athletic enough with good vision, good feet, etc. He could play the same sort of role for us that Grealish plays for Villa, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and driving the team forward. He just doesn't have the same level of "desire". Lamela is better than him at that. So is Gio. Ndombele could be world class if he sorts his head/fitness out. Kane and Sonny are untouchable and Moura is clearly more of a team player and Bale's Bale. Dele's competing against Bergwijn for 6th choice out of 3/4 forwards.

I reckon he's done...

Let's face it, it is about Jose 'breaking' Dele like he has numerous other players. If Dele submits to Jose's will and is prepared to run through walls for Jose then Dele will be back as he is a talented player (similar to the way he reprogrammed Joe Cole at Chelsea). If Dele resists the mind games he'll be gone by next summer. I would not be surprised to see Jose give Dele specific instructions, when he does play, that are the opposite of Dele's natural game - just to see if he is 100% committed to Jose's tactics.

Yeah to be honest, on current form, if we were to line up with:

Lloris

Doherty
Toby
Sanchez
Reguilon

Hojbjerg
Sissoko
Ndombele

Lamela
Son
Kane

Then the bench would consist of:
Hart, Davies, Aurier, Lo Celso, Bale, Bergwijn/Lucas, Vinicius

Then I'm not sure who we would take out of that to put Dele in. Is he better than either Bergwijn or Lucas currently? Probably not. Winks would also miss out, as would Rodon, Gedson & Gazzaniga. We have a very good squad now with a lot of players working hard to be involved, if Dele shows it in training then he will get in. However, on current form in matches I wouldn't put him infront of any of those players within the matchday squad.

Dele has given us some great memories, but has been on the wane for too long. JM appears to want quick transitions / counters and Dele tends to slow things down. It is up to the lad himself to understand what is required when given the opportunity and then prove he can deliver. AM is a much stronger area for us right now, so his chances will be limited.

Stop giving him a hard time and go buy (what I’m sure will be an amazingly overpriced) baseball cap. ?

Spot on.. His tendency to dilly dally with the regular fancy flick to no one in particular appears to have no place in Mourinho's plan. He probably needs a fresh challenge, as whilst Mourinho remains in charge, his chances are very limited, and rightly so.
