Was underwhelming for most of SCs expert talent spotters though ?
I feel like some of that was fair, seeing as he only really had one good season, like Janssen. Personally I don't believe in "one season wonders" though. If you can sustain a run of form over 40 odd games that's enough for me. I really had no doubts about him. The main thing is that Portuguese football is really bogged down and sloppy most of the time. For him to have the amount of goal contributions he had and from the bench 1/3 of the time in the league was really impressive.

Looks another happy character too which I like. Face lit up after those assists. If that header had come to him later in the game after he'd had a few decent touches I'm sure he would've buried it.

Can only get better with more minutes and sharpness.
Look forward to seeing him playing in other combinations.

Nice to know we don't have to grind Son and Kane into the ground anymore.

Very good debut, two great assists. But the first for Moura was quality, and just after missing a great chance with that header showed a nice bit of character.

Shouldn't be surprising that the primeira's golden boot winner looks good. Completely different situation from Janssen, as Vinicius showed me in Portugal that he is much much more than a goalscorer. He got double digit assists last season, and he showed that awareness today. If we were in need of a first choice striker, he'd of been near the top of my list, incredible how he's our "backup".
No offence, and it was a promising start but.

18 goals is decent in 34 games but even though he was joint top scorer with Pizzi and Mahdi Taremi. It is the lowest scoring top scorer in the league since 2007/2008 and a much worse record, then say someone like Dost (who for me is the definition of average but reliable striker). There is also the fact that he essentially flopped at Napoli and then at Monaco , and that was only two seasons ago.

I'm not trying to say he isn't very good I'm very excited about him, he looks built for the PL and looks to have everything we need. But, it's not incredible that he is our back up and I suspect that no team of our status would risk buying him as their number 1 on the back of what was his first successful full season at any club (of course there are mitigating factors, reality is he was a very late bloomer who had an unusual route to the top of the game). There is nothing surprising that he is our backup and there is also a reason we haven't bought him outright. But I am impressed with his performance today and fully believe he has all the tools necessary to be a hit.

Was really impressed with him today just like everyone else. Obviously there's the caveat that it was relatively poor opposition but he showed a huge amount of talent all the same. The comparisons with Janssen have been proven to be bollocks within minutes of seeing this guy play. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Almost glad he ended up with two assists rather than two goals

goals will come, assists take more ablity.. proper unit too, I always felt we would sign a second stiker as a fox in the box type player, great to see someone who can play the deeper role

Apart from that pretty bad miss near the start it was a perfect debut. I was thinking he’d be slower but he looks like he’s got some decent pace on him tbf.

It's quite clear Jose is a very good identifier of talent.
And what a certain team really needs, Hojbjerg was a top priority for him last window and it already looks like an excellent piece of business.

He probably also knows that we are 1 or 2 top defenders away from a genuine title challenge.

Should have been 4 assists, the ball through to Dele in particular was lovely.

Strikers need a goal when they join a new club though, look at Janssen or Forlan as examples of the narrative that gains steam if they don’t get it. I was just hoping for a goal at the end to cap off a lovely debut. Both assists were top notch

The last target man we has was Jansen and the difference with the 2 is insane. Vinnie always on the half turn looking score. Decent speed. Lovely touch

Early days but I struggle to recall many performances from Llorente, Janssen or Soldado that were as well rounded as Vinicius was tonight, even against easier opposition (not that LASK were a walkover).

If he keeps this up then he certainly looks much better value than plenty of other players in that price range (Joelinton, Haller, etc).
