Bilic makes Modric claim
Former team-mate says midfielder is on his way to Spain
Last Updated: June 18, 2012 10:46am

Luka Modric's former Croatia team-mate Mate Bilic claims the Tottenham midfielder is close to moving to Spain amid speculation linking him with Real Madrid.

Rumours over where the 26-year-old will be plying his trade next season are rife again this summer, with Manchester United

and Chelsea

reported to have reignited their interest in the Croatian.
The sacking of Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane has cast further doubt over his Spurs future and it remains to be seen whether the managerless club will be able to withstand a second summer of interest in the midfield ace.

Real Madrid

are the latest club to be linked to Modric,

with coach Jose Mourinho

rumoured to be a long-time admirer.

The midfielder's friend and ex-Croatia

colleague Bilic claims the Spurs man is keen on joining the Primera Liga champions and is getting closer to a move.

"I'm very good friends with Modric," the Sporting Gijon

striker was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"He wants to play in the Spanish league. He loves the Premier League but he wants to play in Spain. He's very close to agreeing a move."

Ouch; but I can stomach him going to Real over any team in England.

Yeah, I'd prefer that to Chelscum.

On another Spurs to Real story, if my memory serves me correctly wasn't Campbell rumoured to be close to securing a big money move to Real during his last season with us? I also seem to remember us all (most) wishing him all the best if that did happen. As we know, it didn't work out like that.

Of all the places he could go, Madrid or Barca are my favoured options. And I like Madrid, we seem to have a good relationship with them, the virtually gave us Rafa... Maybe they dont want Kadeira or Ozil anymore and we can have one of them as part of the deal??

I think the difference is Modric still has about 3 (?) more years to run down on his contract so a repeat of that cannot happen... yet.

As said at length this time next year - he cannot force a move with such a long contract. We will only start twitching when he's down to 2 years

And.....add to that that you used to see players going for, typically, 25-30% of their value with 1 year left e.g. Michael Owen for £8m to Real, because of the madness of Citeh etc. you now see them going for around 80-100% e.g. Nasri, Lescott.......

........we only really have to do business at 1.

There's no point him refusing to try as he'll be shooting himself in the foot

It's ok, when Pep is announced as new manager he will tempt Modric to stay.

Stop laughing.

I really don't want to see Modric leave :(

But if he is going I'd rather he went to Real for a massive price and perhaps even Sahin coming the other way?

MOdric was fantastic tonight v Spain. If he played that well for us every week we would really, really miss him. As it is however, we will just really miss him.
