His job isn’t to be nice to people, it is to get performances from his squad and win things. Think that is why he built up the persona he had to deflect away from his players over the years and give the arrogance and confidence that the clubs supporters of whoever he managed the feeling that yeah we can go and beat anyone. He breeds confidence wherever he goes.

The team was getting old and we didn't have fresh legs for over two years. Had Levy backed Poch fully, we could have achieved something.
That team/squad was plenty good enough to win things - clearly better than the Leicester crew that won the league or the Arsenal knobs that won multiple FA Cups over the last few years, for example. They didn't perform to the levels of which they were capable when it mattered most though. I have faith that José can and will be the difference in those moments.

I’d suggest we’ll give Jose this season, and if we get no return he’ll be gone.. I’m not enamoured by his ‘skills’, but I’m open to this next 40+ games. Does he spend big to buy his team ? Like Chelsea et al. I think he does. I’d love to be proved wrong Currently, I’m not his greatest fan
Except for Porto yes but he knows that he isn't getting that kind of budget here. He'll definitely get this season.

There's a series on Netflix called The playbook" there's an episode on Jose. Very interesting
I watched it as well. It’s all psychological with him and it’s all about changing the player’s mentality which he seems to do be able to do. We just need to give him time and he can even turn us into winners. That Porto team had no big players at all.

Not sure about Jose being a ‘nice guy’. I have ITK from someone I know who worked on Amazon doc that said all our players were really friendly and nice but Jose was ‘vile’. He actually said they could have really ruined him with some of the footage they have that didn’t make the final cut.
Talk to different people you get different opinions. You get that with celebs - talk to one person and they go on about what a great person he or she is and another will say they were awful.

May well give that a go. Cheers for the intel
Just watched it. Really good insight in Jose, watching it will get you more motivated about just how top top class Mouriniho is and has been as a manager.

Three things are common throughout:
1. He loves winning but also as an ‘underdog’:
Porto - small club compared to usual giants in CL but won them the league UEFA cup and CL
Chelsea - lots of money but still had to overcome man.u and fergie and hadn't won Prem for 50 yesrs
Inter - hadn’t won CL for 50 years and weren’t n.o1 team in Italy
Madrid - competing against best Barca team of all time
Tottenham - sleeping giant of a club with infrastructure ready to be world class club, just need to change mentality and improve squad a bit

2. He loves overhauling a squad because it builds a bond and momentum quickly but that each club is different and you need to get the right profile of player to suit that club

3. It’s all about the collective team, he’s huge on the human and emotional side of the game with the players and the media.

Definitely recommend people check it out! (The Playbook - Netflix)

Yep. He says he manages the team not the player. Hence he focuses on building the team to do the impossible. Fascinating episode.
The laundry bin cracks me up.

I totally agree. It's all about perspective. I was just passing on what he told me in good faith.

However I will say Mourinho is the same guy who was totally out of order with the disgusting abuse he aimed at the female Chelsea physio. He also thought it was okay to gauge the eyes of a Barcelona coach when Madrid lost El Classico. So he's definitely got form for some despicable behaviour.

Of course - he's definitely far from perfect and you can't excuse that except perhaps to consider that the pressure maybe got to him but it doesn't excuse that.

It's so bloody easy to be judgemental on the internet when we have the luxury of keeping all of our misdemeanours secret.
I'll be the first to admit I've done a lot worse things than shout at a doctor and poke someone in the eye.

Funny how Mourinho does something and it's despicable, Dembele done the same and it barely gets a mention.

Did you poke a doctor in the eye?

I can only judge him by his actions - none of us know him personally - and those actions don’t paint a good picture of his character.

As I said, they could just be isolated incidents that don’t reflect his overall character but I’m not just going to dismiss them because he manages the club I support.
