He's a bit snarky to begin with, but it's actually hard to argue with most of his points. Mourinho does have a lot to prove, we do have a talented but imbalanced squad, and it will be enlightening to see where he takes us.

He's not saying Mourinho is shit and is doomed to fail, he's simply saying that how he does at Spurs will be the real measure of his managerial ability at this late stage of his career. As he says in the article:

Spurs’ situation isn’t completely hopeless. In fact, it’s an oddly perfect context for Mourinho to prove himself: they’re talented enough not to require a miracle, but – at the same time – have been neglected to the extent that they need far more than just a fresh face in the technical area. They’re a substantial project requiring imaginative solutions.

Does he have what it takes to turn us around and mould us into an efficient, ruthless Mourinho team of old, or is he genuinely a bit past it? This is a question we've been debating on SC since the day Mourinho took over, so it's hardly slanderous for a journo to bring it up.
Spot on mate well said.
He's got a fairly talented whilst slightly imbalanced and injury prone squad.
It has enough quality and potential for him to do well but he'll have to work on a lower and limited budget, be very astute in the market and he will have to squeeze every last drop out of the team's potential just like Poch did but hopefully Jose's experience and tactical nous can get us over the line to a trophy.

He asked to be judged once he's had a pre-season and he asked for injured players to be back and fast forward to July well he's pretty much got both his wishes so whilst i'm not expecting us to win every game and set the world on fire I do expect and hope for a marked improvement and positive signs moving into next season.

We shall see....

Speculating on what we may see when the team returns . I'm wondering how Jose will handle an unusual for him financial setup.

I found it disappointing how Jose ran with the 'everyone is injured ,this is a farce' line so heavily . We have no forwards so that explains how conceding so many goals happened ? ?. It gave the players an excuse to do less than their best imo . It insulted the younger player's abilities too .Poor stuff . Lloris has chimed in with 'We were on our knees' I note . Everyone jumping on the bandwagon . Yes thing were bad injury wise ,but the team collapsed moralewise and Jose is partly responsible imo .

Been watching a lot of old Spurs matches during lockdown and jesus we could be lazy and feeble at times .That Spurs mentality cliche clearly defined . One forgets how bad we could be in terms of effort . What a contrast to Poch best era teams ,within a minute or two watching, the total change in intensity is abundantly clear . I do hope that the 'Spurs mentality' isn't back again . This aint about Poch..we were crap for his last year too .

Whether jose can reset the team to high intensity winning ways seems quite a leap of faith imo . Hoping for a miracle ,but fearing the worst here .

The rot set in last season and it might take 1/2 departures before we start to improve.

My concern is that we still concede silly goals and haven't learnt to defend as a team under Jose, to be fair we were doing that in the latter years of Poch but since we've transitioned to a new style of play we're just giving up chances even more now. Do I expect that to chance on the restart, not really no but the difference is that we now have attackers back who can win matches so we could potentially outscore the opposition - however I do expect us to improve over time and when we get some defensive reinforcements.

The athletic has become very daily mailish. Guess those massive layoffs were of the editorial staff and they kept the writers good at clickbait and stirring the pot.
