I really don't understand why tbh. You're allowed to write teh word and let the system censor it but not allowed to self censor it in the first place?

Does not compute ... nobody need answer, rules are rules, it's noted ... and I'm getting used to them making no sense tbh (generally, not here specifically)

Happy Friday ****s
There's a lot more to it than that. My memory on this is a bit vague and @Rob knows more about the ins and out of it, but IIRC google ads had something to do with it, I might be wrong though. But putting that aside the other reason was that when we first decided to ban the word people were getting VERY creative with the self censoring and it got so ridiculous that in the end we brought in the automatic censor and arrived at the rule as it is today. Like I said, we did initially allow people the leeway to self censor but. as often happens, the piss got ripped out of it.

Often, some of SC's rules might not make sense at first glance but we don't do anything without a good reason, even if, initially, one can't see it.

Whenever a rule doesn't make sense, I just assume it's Google dick waving again - "yeah, WE can provide links to all manner of filth, hate speech, obscenities and such - in fact, we're probably the most go-to company for regular joes wanting to find even potentially illegal pornography, but GOD HELP YOU IF A MEMBER OF YOUR FORUM SWEARS! Or shows a bit of titty, because, y'know, we're a responsible company..."

Like I said, I might be wrong :D

It's the advertising part of it though, I guess because they are paying and getting paid it's going to have certain restrictions that might not usually apply to just straight up searches. But that's another guess :hungry:

Ah, those adverts for Wish.com that offer me a three-way dildo with bottle opener, shaped like a pair of flip flops? Or the 100% SFW single-legged man-thong?

I see stuff advertised on here that we would get banned for posting - ever see what a 40+ single mum wears when tempting hot studs in my area? Everything is frilly, even the pink bits.

Haha
Don’t the ads they choose to display reflect the search histories or browsing of the users?
Which makes you a wrong’un

I appreciate the sensitivities involved, and will do my best to abide by the rules, but, in so doing, I think it only fair to recognise that the English have a long-standing tradition of linguistic creativity in this area and have been finding different ways to bypass censorship since Edmund Ironside's defeat at the Battle of Assandun in 1016...

Because the system reverse engineers it and automatically changes that to the actual word :cautious:

This is how it starts.....now the computers are learning....it's Skynet

We're doomed....you ****s have brought Judgement Day to reality!

Haven't you figured it out yet? Idiocracy and Terminator are both documentaries from the future, they were sent back as a warning but Terminator has already begun, we just don't know it yet, and Idiocracy has apparently been adopted as some sort of bible.

It's weird how in Spain the equivalent word: coño (no me prohibas por favor  )
Is used in day time soaps! (it probably isn't but it's used like bloody is here)

If you look at it one way it's just a dirty twat (oo er)

Just talking about it gives me fond memories of the Curb episode: the grand opening.... Stick a a "fuck you, you car wash" at the beginning and you have the end of one of the funniest episodes ever.
But that's for another thread...
Can we ju.

Yes I was shocked at its widespread use, including as you say in daily soaps
being aware of the literal meaning when I first came to Spain.
But it has so many everyday uses
and rarely refers except indirectly to the female genitalia
Widely used for emphasis as in damn, hell, fuck, shit, or even wow.

From the Latin cunnus and the familiar cunnilingus

¿qué coño quieres? (what the fuck do you want?) Everyday assertive, quite common.

It's not that surprising really. The taboo form of words doesn't correlate original meaning of the said words. So in other languages you might replace fuck with shit to have the same meaning as a curse word. why **** became considered such a taboo in the UK is culturally specific and is not going to be the same elsewhere. **** is also hardly the only swear word making reference to female genitalia, it's not just because of that it's considered the worst curse word (outside of racial or homophobic slurs), there will be more to it than that.

Translation is generally speaking a very inaccurate way of understanding languages as a whole btw. I mean it's useful to get around a bit, and sometimes as a learning tool in specific contexts, but, has various issues.
