The race to sign Joshua King is heating up after the Bournemouth striker's agent held talks with Spurs earlier this week.

ChronicleLive understands King's representative, Jim Solbakken, caught a flight to London on Thursday to hold discussions with Spurs' officials but 'nothing has been decided yet' and Newcastle United are still 'in the race'.

Jose Mourinho has targeted players with Premier League experience and has already signed Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Matt Doherty and Joe Hart this summer.

King, who would count as a homegrown player, has attracted interest from a host of clubs following Bournemouth's relegation to the Championship - and Steve Bruce is an admirer.

Was going to say, how good is Chronical Live?
Local press is usually more reliable but I think we should pay attention to the history of the journalist - https://twitter.com/CiaranKelly__

I’d take JK on a short 2 year deal. Homegrown, knows the PL, can play through the middle and out wide so would give us a few options.

I think he’s a pretty decent player and he can legitimately play both wide and through the middle which would be handy given our ridiculous schedule...

Him or Wilson would make a lot of sense. I get why we’d pass if they’re asking for silly money for either though.

Would be another eminently reasonable signing to improve a shortcoming. I’m very supportive of the “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good” transfer strategy.

True, but if it makes Ashley get a wiggle on, that then free's up Andy Carroll to us - that'd be a signing that people wouldn't be excited about, right?

I could see any deal for any Bournemouth player dragging on toward deadline day. Their resolve to hold out for big fees may weaken as the window comes to a close and their need to sell in order to get their finances sorted grows, but we can't afford to wait until late September or early October to get the Kane backup in.

Our fixture list before that time is brutal, we need the striker earlier than deadline day so that we aren't running Son and especially Kane, who's had no preseason and is going to by flogged by England despite that, into the ground.

I think King would be a far better option on the counter than Wilson, and against deep lying defences...better burst of pace and more agile. Just more versatile overall as well.

Makes a lot of sense.

I could see King becoming Jose’s new Samuel Eto’o (not comparing the players, more the roles ffs). He often played second fiddle to Milito as a striker but also had a vital role as a left winger for Jose. Because he was a centre forward by trade, Eto’o would often arrive at the back post at just the right moments. With the signing of Doherty, I can really see us scoring plenty of goals from crosses this season.

He's quick and quite the nuisance to play against. Scores a fair share of penalties, so take that into account when checking out his goal tally. Would classify him as decent at PL level.

HG and one year left on his deal, so maybe there's a decent deal there?
