Some interesting insights from Gunter from someone on Spurs Odyssey. A good read i thought

"OK, Gunter did a presser (sic) yesterday for nationals in England and the Welsh regionals...
Wales see him as centre back long term. Spurs categorically do not and he always trains as a right-back and is often paired in training exercises with Hutton, which I thought seemed rather sensible.

Goalkeepers, he politely told me that the players were very unhappy with this situation last season. Robbo's confidence had gone completely.

He thinks Gomes is the best goalkeeper he's ever seen. Apparently he's been phenomenal in training and the players already f**king love him.

His English is excellent and he's replaced Keano as chief prankster.

Ramos picks and drops people sometimes entirely based on their performances in training. Apparently the intensity is very high and Gus organises most things.

Everyone accepts the situation with Ledley King. He is treated with great reverance by the players and that was even the case with Berbatov and Keane.

Yes there was a bust-up in training with Berba - but he wouldn't say who with. Gunter had no problems with Berbatov and says he acted very professionally in training right up to deadline day and the players never bothered to talk to him about him not wanting to play. They just got on with it.

Roman Pavlyuchenko speaks very little English and had an interpreter with him when he was introduced to the players on Friday. As he also doesn't speak Spanish, I presume the interpreter will be kept on.

Bale and Gunter are very close, but Gunter is closest to his new lodger, Aaron Ramsay. Spurs were never in for Ramsay, despite Gunter telling him to join us anyway. Gunter and Ramsay split the chores.

Robbie Keane thinks Gareth Bale will be the best player in the world. Seriously.

Bale did a big selling job on Spurs to Gunter in January, Everton also wanted him.

A lot of the younger players are really happy we've signed Frazier Campbell.

John Bostock is equal in skill and technique to any senior player.

Modric has replaced Berbatov as most gifted player in the squad in training.

Everyone loves Gio.

Lennon and Bentley are really good mates.

He didn't know Pav couldn't play in Europe.

My biggest revelation was going to be that the players were told we'd be signing another striker
yesterday. But Spurs have rather stolen my thunder!

I believe the striker to be Huntelaar, from the clues he dropped today and from someone else I spoke to today."

That was great. I especially liked the bit about the players treating Ledley with great reverence. :)

Good insight. The team spirit sounds good and i think the bonding in Spain will have done wonders too. I actually feel that we have more of a team and togetherness with our players now. I could never appreciate why teams with lesser teams on paper, could do better than Spurs in the League. But i think thats why. They all work hard for eachother and there isn't any over inflated egos. Hopefully we have that this season.

So much for Sam Allardyce's comments claiming the Berbatov saga had split the dressing room, sounds like we have a good group of lads together now which I'm sure pretty soon there confidence and friendships will show on the football field, may it bring many goals and points!

Glad everyone loves Gomes, he was awesome against the Chavs on sunday, and someone that can actually judge a cross and keep hold of the ball too!

I'm not at all suprised everyone loves Gio, he seems that kind of guy. I really hope he makes it, and soon!

Love that news about Bostock, he's gonna be some player.

Also interesting about Keanos opinions of Bale. There's not much Bale does't have as a footballer, he's got the whole package. Apparently he prefers playing left mid to full back so maybe we should be looking to bring in a top left back and let Bale make the left wing his own.

Yeah I agree that it's probably better to have almost just a large group of friends as the squad. Pav looks like a friendly guy too. Most of them seem happy and friendly, which I like to see. When you have that, you don't need a **** in your team to get people going. Maybe just someone to encourage them, someone they treat with great reverence perhaps... :)

I wonder how long before Utd decide he should replace Van Der Sar

with 7 subs get Bostock on the bench. Shame our first CC game is away at barcodes. a home draw against Derby would have been just what we needed for some Bostock and Gunter lovin'

bostock is still 16 although he is already a very good player is it really worth the risk?

If Bostock looks good enough to be in our first team Ramos won't waste too much time before he moves him into the first team squad like he did O'hara

not sure there's a hard and fast rule. Judge everything on individual merits i say. Messi benefited as did C.Ronaldo, Pele and Maradona would either be better or worse had they been held back till they were 20+? I dunno but i do know they were all blooded crca 16/17 and all were/are excpetional.

Trevor Francis made his debut for Birmingham city at the age of 16, he went on to be an England international as well as a two time European Cup winner and was the first million pound player (after tax)

Back in those days (by all accounts) the game was tougher, in as far as the was far less protection from refs and players were exposed to heavier challanges on a regular basis.

I dont know why now days it is taken as a given that a player must be 18 or even in their 20s before they are ready for first team football.

Surely is they are good enough they are old enough.

Bostock was ready for first team football at Palace, he should certainly get his chance to atleast be on our bench (if he is good enough) as personally I feel his development would be furthered that way rather then playing in the reserves.

Same goes for Rose and any other youngster who may have the talent to make the first team, how are the going to develop playing in the reserves? seems to me the lack of quality at the level is likely to make the better youngsters development tail off.

i love the sound of gomes...i really think this could prove to be a brilliant signing by the club. he seems to have a super attitude. i also like the fact that if the opposition have a penalty, we might actually have a goalkeeper who can save it - i don't remember robbo ever getting close to a penalty in his spurs career!

gud article, thanks for posting mate. sounds like there is a good atmosphere amongst the players and this can only be a good thing for the future!

He got pretty close to Sheringham's when we lost 2-1 to West Ham on that fateful afternoon

I wonder whether the emergence of man cities dirahams was what stopped our striker being signed, DL comments suggested that we thought we had it tied up until agents scuppered it.. I.e did an agent tell huntelaar to hold fire untilk Jan as Man City would double his wages !!

The difference is, Bostock is 16, O'hara is 21. There is a hell of alot of development between 16 to 21, so really Ramos bringing O'hara into the team is very different to giving Bostock a go.

I don't see the need to risk bostock, it's not a problem position
