I think right now Madrid are holding on to him in the hope that he can be used as a makeweight in transfer dealings (Pogba/Eriksen) and therefore are holding a high valuation.

Unless Zidane has a change of heart, they probably need to cut their losses eventually. Having a guy effectively on gardening (golfing) leave on 650k a week is not good business.

The issue for us is the early close of the window. My guess is he stays or ends up somewhere like Inter.

I see that Bale was used to promote the new Real Kit at least on his own Insta. I have also seen it metioned that Real get his merketing royalties?? So I wonder if he actually generates a decent amount of revenue for Madrid??
I can't see he will generate nearly enough to cover his salary, but maybe enough for them to lose sleep over???
Although, as it stands, I should imagine they would be looking to use him as a make weight for the Pogba deal before the Eriksen one.

As someone who admittedly WAY out of the loop, what happened with GB and Madrid? I had no idea there were issues and then suddenly, this window, its all I hear about. Genuinely curious.

Is it any different from what some of our fans are advocating for Eriksen?

What are our fans suggesting? Bales been booed, had his car attacked, been jeered as he turns up for training, etc. All I've seen for Eriksen is a few people moaning on an internet chat forum.

And Bale has never talked about leaving himself, has he? It's always about Madrid shipping him off.

My understanding of it is that Bale was scoring each and every week for Madrid in lead up to Champions League final and expected to start the final.

He was then benched and came on and scored a worldy and gave an interview basically saying how fucked off he was with the decision.

Then Ronaldo also decided he couldn'tet anyone else have the limelight and gave a shitty interview also, Zidane has told Perez he wants Ronaldo to stay and Bale to go and the opposite is lined up to happen. Zidane then leaves.

Bale struggles with injuries and form as do madrid and they basically beg Zidane back saying they'll get him anything he wants, his relationship with Bale is shagged at this point and Bale is barely in the team despite being fit and final game of the season he doesnt even come off the bench which if they want Bale to leave means he didnt get his farewelll.

Whilst this is happening the madrid fans fucking hate him, claim he prefers golf to playing or training. Hes stuck on 600k a week so his agent has made it clear that he loves madrid and has no plans to cut that fat contract down. Madrid fans and manager want him out.

A poster on here made a terrific post about the behind closed doors situation which I will try and find you.

Thanks so much for that, and for the link. Sounds like the Bale/RM marriage is doomed, but neither side wants to budge on the financials. How realistic is the "3 way split" mentioned in that thread? And although it makes sense that Spurs would be the most logical destination in the PL, WOULD that cause morale problems? We've pretty much turned over the entire team since he left, and Poch has the respect of the players - if he said he'd be worth the risk, wouldnt the players trust his instincts?

In the end, this pretty much comes down to money. I'd rather us spend on younger players who Poch can develop than drop a ton on Bale, but if the financials can be worked out, sure, why not?

I think that the ITK have said that it's pretty much impossible now. My opinion is the only way he would join is if Madrid paid 400 of the 600k which would line him up with our biggest earners, I get the feeling from how his agent talks that Bale isnt going to cut his earnings. I think he would fit in well with us, Madrid can try and paint him a certain way but I dont buy their bullshit even when he was a star here he worked hard defensively and so Its all down to the money.

My bet would be he stays at Madrid at this point or United work out a deal for him.

I think he was doomed there from the start. Ronaldo and his ego was never going to be happy to not be the most expensive player in the team and was always going to poison the relationship between Bale and Madrid fans. I didn't like the way he behaved when he left but could have been much worse and he did work hard for us. Comes down to if he is focused on his wallet or playing really.

I think the key aspect of such a split is how much his image rights are worth. Ignoring them for a minute though, the next 3 years could cost:
Spurs - £30m salary + transfer fee
Real - £30m
Bale - £30m
Real are currently on the hook for £90-odd million - it would be no skin off their nose to drop £30m of any transfer fee into Bale's pocket.
Spurs could justify giving him the same salary as Kane - he's a genuine superstar and can probably be got for an extremely attractive transfer fee, relatively speaking.
Bale would stand to lose salary but a reasonable dent could be made in that with a hefty signing-on fee.

Bringing image rights back in; a further dent can be made in Bale's losses by regaining full control of them but Real stand to lose out from that so perhaps demand a higher fee. Even so, surely there's a deal there to be done if we want it - £60m fee, £10m signing-on, £200k p/w (for 3 years)?

I don’t think I’m following you. Real are on the hook for 90.000.000 over three years for a player they don’t want and won’t use. Why on earth would there be any transfer fee at all? Anyone taking on even half of Bale’s contract for free would be a godsend for them.

Likely a matter of pride (or arrogance). Madrid have essentially got unlimited funds so reputation and pride is worth more than cash to them. Bale is one of the most expensive players in the world even if they don't like him and they will not be seen to give him away for nothing.

There’s no 3 way split to be worked out. Bale won’t eat £30m+ and nor should he. Madrid want him out so bad, they should pay for it. Make them buy out his contract or pay more than half of it in whatever deal happens. They are the ones on the hook for £94m owed to Bale. Not anyone else.
