I think Joshua is at least a year or so away from being ready for Fury, IMO.
Well I expect Joshua to take longer between fights now

He's potentially got an eliminator for the IBF up next with Takam. Then the natutal assumption would be a fight for the crown against Martin

Win both of those and he's a World champ making I assume as easy a first defense as he can find first (plus any mandatory obligations) - only after that series of events could I see a fight with Fury or Haye taking place personally

I'd still have quite liked to see him fight Chisora for the European but if he's offered a faster route to a world title challenge fair play

Joshua will be fighting for the IBF belt in April. Interesting. Think its a bit soon, but let's see how he does.
Think in any other era or weight class it would be too soon but since Fury beat Klitchsko every heavyweight will fancy there chance of being champion.Have not seen too much of Martin but what I have seen think Joshua beats him then will take on Haye in the summer.Fair play to Martin for taking the fight over here reckon he must be making a fair bit must have been easier first defences out there.

The guy is 26. A year young than Fury. He should be fighting better oppo by now.
I agree

But I was torn between whether or not this is the right move for him

Once you step up to world title level you commit to fighting those levek of opponents (if you win), the development stage is over

That said an opportunity presented itself, it's not often there will be such a lowly ranked world title holder ready for the taking

Martin is not a mug but hes barely a top 10 fighter, he never beat a champ to get his title and he won it on an injury against a much smaller man

This fight is winnable for AJ.

I would have liked to see him fight another fight or two up the ladder so to speak, maybe for the European title prior to a world title challenge, but realistically by the time he does that Martin may have lost his title and the belt could have become more difficult to secure for AJ (say if Martin instead fought and lost to wilder, there would then only be 2 world champions in the division both on paper more difficult than Martin)

I think overall it's the right decision. If wins this he could fight the winner of Chisora and Pulev before having to take care of whatever manditory challenge the IBF sets and then if he still has the belts he can think about unification or a big money domestic fight against Haye

I understand why people think it's too soon but I agree with matchrooms decision to throw him in there because the opportunity arose and it would have been foolish to ignore it

Agree, this is a good chance for an easy belt. Relatively speaking.

Another boxer saying fucking stupid things. What a surprise.

It's almost as if people who get paid stupid amounts of money to hit other people are, more often than not, complete idiots.

Who would have guessed?
It's only at the top end they get stupid amounts of money, Boxers as a whole, idiots, just because they get paid to hit people, it should be expected that that they are idiots? I don't think so. Boxing isn't just about hitting people, it's about not being hit, you have to be disciplined, it's not an easy sport or a sport that does not require much intelligence.

Pacquiao didn't say what he did because he was a boxer, there are many, many people that think like he does religious and non religious.

It's hard to argue that boxing doesn't attract more than its fair share of idiots.

Maybe it has as many idiots as other sports, but the idiots in boxing are just more vocal, but either way considering the relatively small number of boxers, they get through an incredible amount of stupidity between them.

I'd also suggest that, whilst boxing obviously includes a huge amount of intelligence and skill in a sporting sense, most people who get into the sport are people who, in the first instance, enjoy hitting people which is not something that is generally equated with an awareness of and measured approach to the world generally.

So when I here people like Pacquiao and Fury saying the sorts of things they do I'm not really that surprised...because they are stupid.

I think it's more to do with being extremely religious than it is about boxing.

Pacquioa is not an idiot,so what if he said that, whatever happened to freedom of speech, I'm sure 'more than 50% of the worlds population would agree with him anyway, but just havnt got the balls to say it, above all, he's an intelligent man who will probably go on to lead his country one day

He has apologised it would seem:

"I'm sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals. Please forgive me for those I've hurt. I still stand on my belief that I'm against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I'm not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I'm praying for you."

Bit of a generalization much? I'd hardly call Ali or Foreman "stupid". Academically speaking you could probably say the majority are lacking, but that doesnt mean they are stupid. Tyson Fury has some old fashioned views tht dont sit well with some, but he's actually very quick witted and funny, which means he's actually quite intelligent. I dont think the majority get into boxing due to an enjoyment of punching people either, for most it's a way out, and a source of discipline in their lives.

Bought my tickets for the Joshua/Martin fight this morning having missed out to buy priority O2 tickets the other day. I am not even sure who's on the undercard but hoping it ends up being as good a night as the Whyte fight

Nice one. Hearn is promising a real quality undercard so should be a great night out. Dunno if you've seen but the press conference is on youtube.

I literally haven't seen anything yet, I was hoping it would be a decent undercard because Matchroom has so many fighters in their stable now and close links to the Sauerlaands it seems when putting on events now.

Thanks for the heads up I will check youtube and see what Hearn jr has to say about the event

Fake apology, still saying the same thing in private I bet.
