The rumour is that Auba has been offered 350k a week on a three year contract. That’s 570k a week for the next three years for two 31 year olds this summer, and you also have others like Ozil who are on mega money.

Oh, and they laid off a load of the normal people who rely on their paychecks because of COVID. Lovely club.

55 staff on 100k a year would amount for 6-7 weeks pay for Ozil, Auba (if he signs) and Willian then. Without bonuses.
Is it just me or have Arsenal got far less shit for that than we did for furloughing staff during lockdown?

Maybe it was cos there was no other news at the time, but that seemed to be the talk of all of the podcasts and general football sphere for a week. Seems totally disproportionate since Arsenal put a load of people out of work and it seems like a footnote rather than a big story.

Probably because we were the first to announce it I think

In spite of the general hypocrisy involved and the fact that they have a risible 'class is permanent' adornment on their stadium, this quote from Venkatesham also irritated me:
"We want to get back in the mix competing for the Premier League - and doing it the way Arsenal have always done, playing the entertaining, engaging football our fans want to see."

This is pure revisionism. Until Wenger turned up they has a deserved reputation for playing dull, pragmatic, defence-oriented football. It pisses me off no end that they - and their fans - perpetuate the myth that they have always been entertaining.

So Aubameyang signed 3 year deal on £250k per week.
To be fair, that is good business for them.

Allegedly he turned down 2 offers from unnamed big clubs (according to Sky).
Undoubtedly the best striker in the League

I hate to say it but for once Arsenal made a good announcement video. The Auba video was class.
Their social media team is normally a joke with all the “we are a family” and “London is red” crap but this video was actually good.

It’s sadly times likes these when you realise that football is pure business. What’s a 100 staff when you can sign a winner. I know a few arsenal mates that are not crying over letting staff go when their captain signs a new deal.
