Keep both Townsend and Lennon.

We need both of them to keep everyone on their toes. Look at Chelsea they have Mata, Hazard, Oscar, De Bruyne, Schurrle, Moses. That's strength in numbers.

We should have Willian, Lamela, Chadli, Lennon, Townsend at the very least. None of the new players are established yet and Lennon and Townsend will make sure they keep their standards high.

Agree that competition is needed. I would add sig to that group of players competing for the AM/Winger spots though. But if we on top of that add one of Todor/Halilovic we might have trouble keeping everyone happy though. Then i would prefer to see Lennon go. But it may very well be andros going instead, since he has made noises about wanting to be a starter before .

When was the last time Spurs had an attacking player come through the ranks and made their prescence felt?

The last player I can think was Barmby and that's when we weren't as good.

One of the best things that Bale did last season was that when playing against teams that shut up shop, going into the last 10 minutes and seeming like we would draw, he would use his pace and strength to run at defenders and try to either get a cross in or more often than not, open up space for a (great) shot.
That's exactly what Townsend could offer. His finishing and the fact that he isn't afraid to have a shot (unlike Lennon who seems to prefer passing/crossing) are top reasons why I would love to keep him.

We were playing Dinamo Tiblisi...

Agreed. But seriously, when was the last time you Lennon play like that? Excellent goal (similar to the one at Monaco) and 2 fantastic solo assists. Lennon needs to start contributing more otherwise his days may be numbered...

fantastic game and real quality from townsend but i wont get excited till he does it against the better teams in the premiership.

he has to keep working hard and when his chance comes in the league he simply has to take it and prove he can step up. harder for him but he can do it..

goals he set up tonight were class and i question whether we would have got them if lennon in side i was that impressed but townsend def has got something and can push lennon .. he shoots more and seems to know how to pick out a pass or body in the box better than lennon which is encouraging.

Think he may have just laid down a marker tonight. Not seeing him go now, or worse case if he does, his value has just gone up.
The Willian story, if true that he has been pulled by his agent/club, may see us change targets anyway.

Biggest thing about tonight, is AVB put some players in to lay down a marker. Townsend took his chance as far as I believe.

Townsend has form for that.

When he was still a youth player, Spurs played a big FA Youth Cup quarter final against Arsenal, in front of 20,000 at the Lane. The likes of Caulker, Mason, Obika, Parrett, Bostock and (Adam) Smith were also in the team. It was a very good youth team.

But Arsenal were bigger and better. Miles better, in fact.

Only one Spurs player properly rose to the occasion - Andros Townsend. Terrorised their full back. Always wanted the ball. Never afraid to take on his man. Our MOTM by a country mile. Relished the occasion, the opposition and the crowd.

I knew then that he had a big game mentality.

The only question that lingers over him, IMO, is whether he has the football brain to play in an AVB team.

I have to admit, that I was lukewarm on Townsend until today. My eyes were definitely opened to his potential. I am totally conflicted by the competition and whether this was just one game, but my god he was awesome today.
