It beggars belief that people criticise the club for having no ambition, and yet there are threads everywhere with people lusting after managers who are trying not to get relegated ?

I'll stick with the one that has won 26 trophies, if it's all the same.

Mourinho winning trophies with a shit squad he inherited from LVG = dinosaur

OGS drawing with Southampton with a decent squad he inherited from Jose = legend

Yeah the thing is people just put way too much emphasis on formations as if they are playing chess, yeah formations are key in the way you implement your gameplan but they aren't the be all and end all of how to win a match, it comes down to good old fashioned desire and the ability to be able to implement a successful gameplan over your opponents.

People are acting as if this is going to be the blueprint for Jose in every match, it isn't. We setup 4-4-2 because it helped us take advantage of Arsenal's weaknesses and played to our strength's, but we still had to fight for the win on the pitch - that is how you win football matches not solely relying on the formation.
Also, formations are flexible and are not the same thing as tactics or game plan. Formations are a very small part of that picture.

Because being a spurs fan is all about winning. It's about silverware. It's not about glory, it's about cups?

I wish Jose all the best but he's not the right guy for spurs.

More Ben Davies quotes on Mourinho:

“Under Poch we very much had our style of play and it was just the high press, high intensity…

“Now I think we’re a bit more tactical, we’re a bit more aware of what we’re coming up against. We have a game plan for each game.”

“In some games it hasn’t been what we’ve wanted but everyone’s buying into the skill set that Mourinho has and we all know that he’s a top, top manager,” the 27-year-old added.

“He’s won everything there is to win so us as players have got to put our trust into him and the results will follow.”

It's interesting, btw, Ben Davies is a footballingly intelligent lad. He came up as the most likely to be a manager after football and was backed big time by Jan Vertonghen, another who has been tipped by many to do so. Just found it interesting.

Really? H

Jeez thanks. Potter is a good manager with attacking intent. No better than Poch was when we picked him up. I'd rather take a punt on a manager who plays attacking football than Jose who doesn't.

'But Jose wins things'

We'll lose more than we win if we persist with Jose and I'm not talking about football matches.

Just my onions. Not worth a trolling.
I think he is definitely one to keep an eye on. But we don't need a project manager right now. Get one of those in you will see the old guard move on pretty quick I think. In a few seasons he might be ideal.

Kane wouldn't stick around for Potter, it would have been incredibly small time to hir him or someone like him and ENIC would have been criticised for lacking ambition.

This thread is the perfect example of bipolar. When we win it’s all praise, but when we lose it’s a complete switch. What’s it to be lads in the long term? I’m Jose in!

It's noted this the game is about glory and winning in style was from our hardest bastard players. He wasn't using as an excuse not to win.

So sick of spurs fans who say they'd rather lose with good football, it's so disingenuous.

If spurs won the league with 38 last minute winners that would be exciting.

Winning a game 3 - 0 in the first half is fantastic for the blood pressure, but it's also boring as you've got 45 minutes of largely pointless football your obligated to watch.

What is amusing about the Potter thing is that he was an example, like Nagelsmann, of a highly rated, young attack minded coach. Rather than address the point of the post, which was that Mourinho is a bad fit for Spurs, some people have attacked the hypothetical alternative.

I don't want to brand people as morons because they disagree with me but I would like them to address the argument. Mourinho is a bad fit for Spurs, not a bad manager. He would be acceptable for arsenal who have a proud history of intentionally defending to win but not for us.

Nagelsmann has built a very exciting side at Leipzig and is ready to take the next step, Potter has done well with a limited squad, Nuno Santo is also.capable.

If the counter argument is that these guys don't have the cachet to keep Kane etc then Spaletti is free at the moment and he created a brilliant attacking side at Roma.

Are we going to win things with these managers? I don't know but we have as good a chance as any. With Jose, 26 trophy Jose, we don't know. This is the first time apart from man u that he hasn't competed with a squad of the best players in the league. Man U were horrible to watch.

That's not what I said.

Who is being disingenuous?

Is it bipolar because if we don't win there is nothing left to praise?

No it wasn't :D

The quote (i think) you're thinking of was from Danny Blanchflower.

Quoted this from another thread but very relevant here.

The interview was really interesting when he talks about Mourinho's ability to extract that extra bit from you. He'll force you to think about yourself and why you play the sport.

Listening to this, I suspect the problem he had with players like Pogba and Shaw was that (at that stage in their career) they didn't care enough about being the best but more interested in looking good as most youngsters do. It would explain why older players seem to perform well for him.

Im not certain about this. Lots of people keep saying it (and without checking their ages) but his best performing players have been those just coming into the prime of their careers (robben, terry, lampard, ozil, Ramos) or in the prime of their careers (makelele, Ronaldo, Etoo, milito). It was only really at inter he bought/had an older team but I think that’s reflective of the game in that country at the time.

I'm confused.

I've skim read the last 2 pages. Given we've just done our closest rivals, why the hell am I seeing Graham Potter mentioned? Graham friggin Potter.

I proper give up.

This is true, but the point stands. It was made by someone literally winning. But it's used here to suggest style of play is more important than winning.

Yes glorious football is great, but winning with it even better. But winning is still better than losing with attractive football.
