Don't really understand this??
It's probably more for the Coronavirus thread but basically, there quite a bit of doubt on the numbers being reported across the world, with many places seen as posting misleading death tolls.
Here in the UK, we appear to have the most honest and accurate figures but that's creating the illusion that we are the worst hit country in Europe.
It's probably safe to say that everywhere will be hit by this in exactly the same way, it's only the government's reporting that will differ.

Will everyone be hit in exactly the sameway? Some countries handled things differently, reacted earlier...

That would influence how the virus spread surely.

Not too sure on the legalities of this all but say for instance that the PL insisted on playing games and scheduled them to take place. If some players then were to refuse to play, could they end up not getting paid until they play again?

It could be a reason why some PL clubs are pushing for it to go ahead so they don’t have to shell out big wages if some of their players were to refuse, especially during a time when their income has drastically been impacted.

Yes, you're right this isn't the thread for this debate, but there's no evidence that the UK is being "more honest and accurate". In fact, we may be doing less well with our reporting than some other countries, according to a study by The Economist:

The PL is a joke. They are all so worried about losing TV money they have lost sight of what is important. Playing shortened games in neutral venues, with new rules (5 subs), and with players requiring COVID-19 test results quicker than key workers, just to keep TV money for this season is all one big joke. So what if they lose TV money? Clubs need to lower players wages (about time too). Would it be a disaster if players 'only' earned £25k per week (which is still 52 times the average national wage for a whole year). I for one will not be signing up for Sky Sports or BT Sports again. The World is about to hit a very deep recession and the greed of the premier league and football clubs does not sit well with me.

You're right, my post was a sweeping generalisation, just trying to respond to a question without clogging up the thread too much.

Guten morgen @Metalhead. German squads going into quarantine. Brighton having 3 players test positive. Void the season and work towards starting next season in September

Ola! Despite rumours to the contrary, I'm not at the hub of decision making. Why not tweet the premier league?

Then you include the fact we have 10% higher population than Italy, and 40% higher than Spain.

I really don’t see what the difference is going to be with starting the season in a month or in September, the virus will still be here so it’s either make it as safe as possible or wait untill a vaccine is found, by that time half the football league will be gone

The virus will still be here, yes. But it still not really safe right now. We’re on the downslope of this wave but we shouldnt let our guard down. The risk right now is too high.

The hope is stopping the spread now and ramp up tracing and testing to hopefully be able to control a possible second wave. If that can happen, then sport might be able to play through it.

I live in Los Angeles and we are still in a lockdown now for about 2-3 months with no real end in sight. The issue is that the quarantine wasn't to stop the coronavirus completely. It is just to slow down the numbers here of patients going to the hospital. We don't even know any numbers here because there really is no definitive test we can get other than the anti body test. Once testing is rolled out our number of cases will skyrocket and I think we will truly hit a peak in september/december. They say that we are slowly going to reopen everything but I don't think that will happen until june/july. I direct sports for a college tv network and we have no word on when games will be back. I know it's different out in England but how can games be close to coming back when it sounds like we are both in the same boat.

I am assumign based on what BJ said today - the government has taken the decision out of the PLs hands? or am I mistaken... i mean they could cite exceptions which the PL could be one

Maybe we will get clarity on that tomorrow. His comments would suggest no.

Does anyone else wonder why the team most opposed to playing again in neutral venues suddenly announced 3 positive tests the day before the premier league meeting?

I personally smell a rat here
