Levy failing to fill holes in the squad and leaving it until a summer splurge that never comes is a narrative we've seen so many times even Marvel Studios would find it a bit tired.
To be fair, I would say that every team is one injury away from having a massive hole in their squad. That's football.

LISTEN OUT PLEASE!

we are heavily governed by our banks, and the credit we already drawn down, and have with them. Reality is; we will spend sensibly. We have auditors etc, under agreement watching how we spend every penny. The bank want to protect their asset, which is the stadium. Unless we have an investor to come in, pay off everything, we have to be creative and frugal. I rather that than false hopes. So don’t expect summer to see us rack up 150m in purchases Net spend. We thought we would of had more sponsors:naming rights etc.

I don’t like it, but that is how it is.

EDITED: Nett spend of 150m. Should say can’t see us spending 150m, unless there is couple sails, new investment etc. Opinion

This financials talk is Effed Up. Do we really have to wait 25/30 years to pay the stadium off before we can loosen the purse strings and be competitive?

I'll be dead!

We pay premium prices for inferior product.

Have any of the ITK who said Bale discussions were on today said they’re over? Not saying I have much hope at all but makes sense they’d say if the door had been shut.

Lol its over...unless you read the reports that a plane is heading to london which apparently has an injured bale in it who is t in the Real squad !!!

Much better golf courses in the UK than Spain. Surely a Sunningdale membership needs to be in DL's back pocket to close this one

And yet we were constantly being fed the line that "the stadium would not affect transfers."

I can’t believe we still haven’t landed any stadium sponsors.
That has to be on Levy
Summer transfer window not sounding like we’ll be looking to hit the home runs either.
Can’t be surprised tho I guess, we’ve repeated been fed the creative accountancy lines.
Ahhhh well!

Well, when you look at this and the last window, compared to the previous few, it hasn't.
If anything we've spent more than usual.

I feel compelled to say something but I've a feeling it's been said at the end of virtually every transfer window since about 2010

To have covenants related to not loaning players with obligation to buy would be very surprising. To have covenants related to minimum available cash, minimum equity ratio etc, is common. As you say it is very likely that an obligation to buy would need to be recorded as debt in the balance sheet, and thus would have an effect on equity ratio.

That said, if we are so close to breach our financial covenant when it comes to equity ratio, that we cannot loan a Willian Jose with an obligation to buy at lets say 25 mill, then our financial position is really weak...
As you say, the covenants will be in relation to finance, not a bar on loans, it's all about recording the debt (or not) on the books.

Considering the level of debt the club has in relation to the stadium, the amount of cash in bank/liquid assets will undoubtedly need to be maintained at a pretty high level. Adding 25m to the short term debts (obligation to buy within 6 months) will have a significant impact on this ratio. Not equivalent to saying it would bankrupt us or we couldnt afford it, just chances are it would lead to a breach of the covenant. Anyway enough said about that as clearly some people don't like the finance talk, just thought I'd share the benefits of my experience.

Apologies A&C, will derail the thread no further!

To be fair we have now brought in 5 players over the last 2 windows. We should have bought a striker this window, no question imo but we are buying again, which is a huge improvement on last year.

If some are ungettable, and Jose isn't keen on some that's the way it is. He is definitely not a manager that will play a player he doesn't fancy. So that cash is just wasted.

The summer was always going to be the time we see if Jose will be backed or not.

Guess we will have to see.

Don't know about you guys, but I can't wait for the summer now; everything will be different this time!

How long until we get a Summer Transfer Wishlist thread started?!

What will be different is that after 4 months of watching us play without a striker Jose will be banging down Palace's door for Benteke.

As a precursor, I would love to bring in a striker today. But with that said, everyone clamoring on about how we haven't spent any money this window are losing it. We've spent ~ €60 million this window already, which may be the most in the PL. Bergwijn was over €30m and making Lo Celso permanent was like another €25m-€30m (feel like people forget this one). Would it have been better to spend the Bergwijn money on a makeshift overpriced striker for 4 months? I say no. The Bergwijn and Lo Celso deals were amazing value and great business, both for now and for the future. Hope we can get in one more, but I'm not going to lose my shit over it.
