I don’t want to be negative but another game I wasn’t impressed with. Everton, Plovdiv, first half against Southampton and today

We definitely needs to play better and Jose with his tactics

Wow guys ndombele looked soooooooo unfit right? Definitely a player who plays himself into fitness. He was extremely active and energetic in the second half, got stronger as the game went on. I’m so done hearing people bash his fitness.

Really impressed with Ndombele. Tracking back at 80 minutes really well and playing insightful passes. Was sceptical about him and lo Celso together but it might work!

Decent game. In control bar a 5-10 minute patch where we were lazy in defensive smarts with repeated poor clearances that gave them the ball back multiple times - leading to no pressure worldie of a goal. Then a couple of breaks where we didn't get back fast enough at all.

But apart from that we were good. Lacking cutting edge a bit in the first half. Dele was excellent. Winks - despite all the moaning - was fine and played two sublime passes in the second half that should have led to goals.

Obviously we looked better when Kane and Gio came on but the biggest and best surprise was the way Ndombele took the game by the scruff of the neck when we needed him too. Well done big fella!

Ndombele looks in better shape in the 90th minute than he did in the 9th.

I was thinking this... Then I was thinking about if he’d actually completed 90mons for us at all? Then it reminded me of Gazza, the 90’s one, and I always have this memory of him being subbed off in most matches. No idea if that’s accurate or not?

Ndombele and LoCelso as CM is pure porn. Well done Ndombele after last season never thought we’d see you in a spurs shirt never mind playing this well.

I just love that Lamela only knows one way to play the game, and you can always rely on him to play that way.

Lo Celso and Ndombele are so much better than Winks and Sissoko it is not funny. Hojbjerg, Lo Celso and Ndombele has to be our best 3 in CM now.

I think we still need a proper defensive midfielder to play with or instead of Hojbjerg.

Ndombele had a slight better game after GLC came on.
Too bad Alli had a quiet game tonight. He is put in a role that does not suit him to be fair..

Lamela working hard as usually. Got that ‘grit’ in him which I like. Don’t mind Lamela starting on Sunday. Deserved that after tonight imo

Lol.

I'm not even Dele's biggest fan and not sure where he fits in this side atm - but this is laughable. The bloke was EVERYWHERE first half.

You can't pull Dele out of the team and exclude Winks from the same decision. Don't want to see him starting the next game. Both need a serious kick up the arse.

Hard to get excited about any of that. Absolute disgrace that we had to risk Kane. And if that's a "performance" from Ndombele...Jesus.

I'd play GLC and Hojbjerg against Newcastle. Bench Ndombele and save him for that Chelsea game midweek.

He just played with so much assurance after Lo Celso came on. He knows Lo Celso will be so much dependable than fucking Winks.

Through and what seems like no injuries is all that counts here but Ndombele completing 90mins and actually improving as the match progressed is most encouraging even if it's tempered with the level of the competition.

Home tie next will surely yield a more coherent display but like it or not, we improved when Winks and Dele went off.

It might be an unfair stick to beat him with but I don't feel Winks inclusion in the middle of the park enhances the midfield partner(s) around him and as for Dele, this has done his standing with Mourinho little good so expect further speculation on his future.

We really need to add more quality in midfield. Even with the signings we’ve made ( and hopefully more to come) our midfield will be our undoing over the course of the season.

Agree. Jose says he wants to players in each position. For CM we have:
Destroyer = Hojbjerg, Sissoko
All rounder = Lo Celso, Winks
Creator = Ndombele, ???

In a perfect world we replace Sissoko with a proper DCM (part of me thinks Winks needs upgrading too, but he is proper Spurs and if he can recapture his form from a couple of years ago he is a good player to keep), and sign a trequartista in the mould of Eriksen / Coutinho / Sneijder. In that event we could also let Dele and Lamela go seeing as we have Kane, Bale, Moura, Bergwijn, Son and are looking for a CF to compete for the front 3 places in a 4-3-3.
