You really don't understand my point do you? Levy's valuation of deadwood does not mean he won't put his hands in his pocket. The fact we bought 3 expensive players in the summer without selling should show you the one dimensional post I was responding to was nonsense.

We didn't get offers for Alderweireld and Eriksen, one of whom had a release clause, how the fuck is that connected to Levy overpricing deadwood?

We accepted a bid for Wanyama but he refused the move. Is that also Levy's fucking fault?

I am not saying Levy is perfect but when criticising at least use a basic level of common sense.
Did someone piss in your tea this morning? Lots of hostility dropping F bombs all over the place.

I think it is clear that we both agree it is more than spending money, thus, you didn't see me reference Levy spending. My common sense tells me that over-valuation deters potential offers. I'm sure there were lesser offers that we never heard about. My opinion though...

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Apologies, getting a bit wound up by the negativity so going out for a run.

John McGinn pls. Creative, scores goals but a real fucking hustler and intense pressure. Plays like he cares and leaves it all on the field.

Fergie is trying to get Utd to sign him, supposedly..

We're lurching from one crisis to another at the moment. I'm not at all confident Hugo will recover from his elbow injury to the required level and I certainly didn't expect Toby and Jan's form to desert them quite so drastically. It looks like we need an entire back 5 overhaul which is a mighty undertaking. Maybe there'll be a turn of events which reverses some of the current spiral, but even if that happens, all of those players are ageing rapidly and others simply aren't good enough. When you consider that we also need a DM urgently with Dier continually out of sorts. we're in a real mess with only a very difficult January window approaching.

With so many incomings now needed I think there will be an inevitable drop in quality of the players we go after. I think Dybala is totally out of reach under the circumstances (if there ever was a glimmer of a chance), and to top it all off, if Poch is still here I'm not sure Levy will throw a big budget his way, and he's also not keen on chucking money at a new manager.

Looking at the current back 5/6 options:

GK: Lloris, Gazzaniga, Whiteman
RB: Aurier, Walker-Peters
CB: Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Foyth
LB: Rose, Davies

With the rumoured clear out we could easily end up with:

GK: Lloris (injury pending), Gazzaniga, Whiteman
RB: Walker-Peters
CB: Sanchez, Foyth
LB: Davies

Certainly need a new RB (Aarons?), suppose Sessegnon will be considered at LB, and CB don't think any combination of Tanganga/Carter-Vickers/Eyoma would be of the quality we need. Definitely needs to be looked at. GK unfortunately too...

I think you can also consider Dier a CB and Davies can arguably slot in at LCB.

Really I think we need a top young LCB, a RB, a goalkeeper, and a No. 6 for the defensive positions. That's an awful lot to ask of Daniel Levy when you consider there are other needs in the squad as well.

Dybala just scored a cracker against Inter. He's been in and out of the squad but this is big chance for him tonight. Saying all this, I don't know why he would want to come to us anymore anyway.

We have bought a whole new defence in a window before. Trippier, alderweireld, Wimmer and Davies.
But that was in the days where you could get players for relatively reasonable fees.

We're arguably looking at spending 100m+ to repair that.

We were interested in Saliba - he went for almost 30m
We are supposedly interested in Atal - getting quoted 30m in the media
AWB was linked - he went for 50m
Aarons will prob be quoted 30m plus now too.

It won't be as simple as 2015

I don't feel like we need to spend big on an Eriksen replacement as I think Lo Celso will take over his roll very well. I think we would be better served looking for someone young to back Celso up. Saying that, I have always been a fan of Houssem Aouar and would very happily take him. But he would probably be too expensive. I definitely don't see the point in spend the likely 80 odd mil it would take to get Madison when we have quite a few other positions to sort out.

There are three huge holes right now that we need to bust a nut to fill in January, if we mean to salvage something from this season.
1. Full back
2. Defensive midfielder
3. Center back

Don’t know who, but I just know we need some serious upgrades in those areas. Gotta start fixing things in the trenches if we hope to turn shit around. Need some grit and resilience. Players with character and metal. Leaders. Those that don’t hide when the going gets tough. They stand up to be counted and drag the rest of the lazy, weak minded miscreants with them.
