Having been proved quite wrong about Bash and Hartley, I really hope their counties don't now stunt their growth. Hartley may struggle for county champ matches as his county have signed Nathan lyon and I can't see many county grounds warranting a two spinner line up. And Bash needs guidance and a mentor when away from the England side, be interesting to see if he gets that at Somerset... Be nice if Patel can stick with him, or Swanny get involved.

This is what touring India looks like. For us, for everyone. This isn’t the go to reason ‘Bazball’, if we’d played differently the result would almost certainly have been the same.

Yes it’s frustrating and it’d have been nice to have shown some consistency and seen where that took us, but this tour does that to teams.

So for me, I’m not going to beat them up too much over this, our first series defeat under Stokes in what, almost two years. And off the back of this people are writing the team off as not being competitive. :D

On another note, just how awesome is the depth of batting in Indian cricket. Missing three high quality stars the players replacing them slotted in exceptionally well

Most people thought we’d get absolutely tanked out there but we’ve held our own, especially with such a n inexperienced spin attack.
Bar a couple of sessions which is typical England these days the lads have given a decent account of themselves, I just hope Brook comes back firing on all cylinders in the summer as my biggest gripe is the middle order collapses.

Hartley ended up second in the list of highest wicket takers in the series with 22 from five matches, Bashir was in 6th place with 17 wickets from only three matches played. Ashwin who, at the time of writing, was top of the list with 25 wickets.

That is a fucking awesome effort all things, mainly, as you say, their inexperience, considered.

I think the bowlers can hold their heads up high, the batting however a lot of the time left a lot to be desired! 'Bazball' seems to be an excuse to not use their brains rather than bat to the situation without fear of getting out. India out 'bazball'd us. And other teams will too now. Like a football team with only one tactic.

The difference was while England had moments of brilliance India were outstanding over long periods.

Overall a piss poor winter for England. Roll on the summer.

My mates son is an off Spinner who’s a year younger than Bash - He took 6-26 in the final of the NSW U21 Comp today at The Mosman District cricket ground - Surrey released him last summer so went to Oz to play some cricket this winter

Looking for a contract when he gets home next week. He’s so close and yet so far, from ‘making it’

Nobody at Surrey rated Bash and look where he is now! Mind you Surrey don’t play spinners these days…

What a great experience for the lad! I do feel sorry for spinners and keepers, there are so many out there but their opportunities are just so limited over here.

I've always felt the ECB should support 2 or 3 clubs to produce spinner friendly tracks, like Somerset that our elite young spinners gravitate to. Green, seamy tracks are not the place to produce quality spinners but also really good quicks.

I don't understand why young English spinners don't go to play in the Indian domestic leagues.
They would be playing on spinning wickets and would learn so much from the Indian spinners and from coaches like Kumble.

Would there actually be places for them?

60 seconds between overs with a countdown clock shown. Five run penalty after three strikes. It'd be fantastic if they used the TV countdown ticking clock tune :D

It's a start I suppose. I wonder how long between overs would be deemed acceptable in test match cricket. It'd be nice to know if it's on the agenda and what the average time between overs is right now. I would have thought making sure 90 overs (or more) are bowled in test matches would have taken priority over ODI and T20 'delays'

You would have thought….

Unfortunately the proper format of the game is no longer a priority and can’t generate the money for these mercenaries anymore

Did I read that there are about Twenty 20/20 franchises around the globe now!?
