You can tell over the next few weeks the club will be seriously weighing up a move for Guðmundsson with the idea of Spence being part of the deal. I’m sure if we wanted to a deal could be done there, just depends if that’s who we want to go for.
I've seen us linked to him a fair bit recently, I hadn't picked up on him being at Genoa.

That could make the deal a lot easier as Genoa don't generally spend a lot.

He’s a really talented player, I like him a lot, but I do think think there is a question of suitability for the system. He is very versatile but his natural position is as an SS. I wrote about my concerns over him in his thread.

No doubting his talent but I can imagine Spurs will be contemplating his suitability for us because the fit is just a little awkward. I do think there is a deal to be done if we want it tho, assuming he’d be happy to come. It would probably suit Genoa as well because they are not wealthy. Just a question of if we think it’s the right move for us.

I have been wondering whether the plan is to replace Gio with someone who can play 10 or cover LW as you said, a bit like Deki can play RW but cover 10/8 too.

Then we sign a winger who can play both flanks (plus keep Werner or sign a young talent too).

So we’d have 3 out and out wide players in Werner/young player, Johnson and new elite Winger, then 2 playmaking type wingers who could cover centrally or wide.

It would give us a lot of positional flexibility and provide more game time for all involved when we’re in Europe.

Perhaps that is where we see the value of Gudmondsson or Olmo etc.

Talk about a fall from grace since that imo arrogant pic he took ( for Warnock ) with a cigar in his mouth when Forest won promotion. What is it with him? Is it all mental, lack of application etc? Because when we got him I was excited and thought this lad is a talent.

Everything I've read of him suggests he's a nice guy and fairly talented but lacks the mentality to drive himself onwards that the very best have.

Agree. Said the exact same in a different thread. I think that, or some variation of that, is exactly what we will go for tbh. The players we seem to be targeting fit that outline. I’m not sure how much truth there is in the Olmo reports/rumours but he’d very much fit the profile. Injuries obviously being a big concern tho.

In general I think as you say we will probably get one out and out winger ideally who can play ether wing and then a playmaking wide player who can also play naturally as a straight up 10. Then possibly one more wide youth player depending on who stays come summer.

I can imagine Spurs taking some time over this tho as there do seem to be a few different possibilities on the market at present. You can imagine us laying out lots of different potentially strategies.

Really tempted by what you said yesterday. Sign Nusa as a young winger and have Williams who can play both flanks, then Johnson.

The best alternative to Williams would be Neto but his current injury problems are just such a red flag at the moment. The other reason Neto would be good is because it would give us a better balance of left footers and right footers, though Williams is relatively two footed in fairness but I feel he works best naturally on the left.

Of course the other thing we could do is sign Bakayoko and Nusa for example and use Johnson as the both sided winger option.

Agree completely. Also Nusa is actually very solid on the right as well so you ultimately have 3 wingers (Nusa, Johnson and Williams) who can play ether side. The only thing against it is none are left footed which being realistic one would probably need to be.

I genuinely find it a massive shame that Neto has such injury issues as I think he would be such a perfect answer to our attacking quandary especially in tandem with Nusa.

Obviously Williams would also be an excellent purchase but I still just don’t believe he will come to the PL. I think he might end up staying for another season then go to Barca but we shall see, im sure a lot of clubs will be after him so he will have a lot of options. he may well get tempted. But for the aforementioned reason alone I never allow myself to think of him as a realistic option. If he ends up being one then I’ll be very pleasantly surprised.

Im very curious to see where Bakayoko goes. I can’t help but feel there is a reason we don’t seem to be linked to him. I wonder if that’s ether because he’s being priced extremely highly or if there’s another club like Liverpool who have been talking to him.

In hypothetical world and if injuries were not an issue (which they are), how good would bringing in a 3 of Neto, Nusa and Olmo be. Two right footers, one left footer all can play on ether wing and one that’s also natural as a AM 10. Would raise the level of quality up top massively.

If we can look for a similar sort of profile even if not quite at the same level then I think we could be a very different attacking beast next season.

Re Spence. Came on as a sub for the last 30. Picked up a rather unfair yellow but looked good on the whole. Put in a the work defensively and looked dangerous going forward.

Genoa got progressively pinned back throughout the second half but Spence handled himself well. Was a well rounded all be it brief outing from him, I can certainly see why Genoa would want to keep him.

It’s a shame there are attitude issues as he does seem to have the skill set to be a very good RB/WB.

If he’s grown up a bit and has sorted out his attitude issues, do you reckon he’s still got a chance with us, as in does his attributes fits the way we play?

I guess you never know but it certainly seems like Ange has no interest in him. Feels liked bridges have been burnt. From the vibe I’m getting from him and Genoa is that he’s improving but slowly.

If he sorted himself out he'd be a better fit for our system than Emerson. But I think Ange has made his mind up.

That would've been a lovely goal for Genoa. Djed had naff all to do with it but still, it was a nice build-up.
