Interesting little article from Miguel Delaney in the independent.

Says there is a willingness from CE to sit down with the club to see if a deal can be done for him. Deal as in new contract.

Says his options are limited with Madrid prioritising Pogba. Only really Juventus are an alternative.

He did say when he first come out and said he wanted a new challenge he would sit down and speak with us to see what we had to offer.... but did we not have ITK 2/3 weeks ago to say he had been offered / signed a new deal so what has happened since then? are the press behind with things? has he changed his mind?

He’s definitely not signed a new deal yet. That ITK was simply inaccurate.

But we also need them to be fully committed to the club and giving 100% in every game i would much rather him stay and sign a new deal but if not i think poch is going to have an interesting dilemma look at how he froze toby out for a while

I think that was because Toby reneged on a verbal contract agreement. However there's nothing to suggest Eriksen has behaved unprofessionally.

Yes but if he has committed to sign a contract with another team.... Poch may not like that

True but that will be in January, so half the season gone. And look at Ramsey - signed a pre-agreement with Juve but was Arsenal's best performing player before he got injured.

Yes he was there best player second half of the season and for a number of reasons mainly i think he was run into the ground at times eriksen did not seem like his head was there even though he managed to pop up with some very crucial goals

There’s no point in trying to discuss alternatives if you start using words like “obsessed”. Please don’t do it.

The point is I place a different weight on his value from you. I think his value to the team this season is more than the £40m at stake. You don’t. That’s just a difference of opinion and we’ll never know the right answer for certain since we can’t have the two alternatives running to be able to make the comparison.

In my opinion, he makes us a considerably better team, and is an important part of the reason why finishing top 4 is now a minimum requirement for us and not a sufficient target in itself.

Being able to afford half of a Arsenal player wouldn’t be much consolation for losing him!

You are that sensitive? I said "to me you seem almost" obsessed. Quite some modification of the word, but OK.

Has someone that Eriksen wants to play for offered 40m? Eriksen holds the cards now with less than a year on his contract. For me, he has been a professional the entire time he has been here. Even since Jan, he put in a shift each match though he was consistently having to play deeper and do more work defensively. I expect he was getting pretty leggy the last couple of months which makes it tough to have the same first touch or same quality on your passes.

I do not think we will get more than 25-30m for him this summer as both Real and Barca (if they want him) will feel they are big enough to get him to come on a free based on the wages they can pay. I for one hope we sign him to a new deal.

That is another discussion isn't it? Obviously we might not be able to sell him.

Sure. Then Alli sits on the bench. Someone will.

Not all the time. Plenty of games and competition for places is a good thing. Last season we suffered because the likes of Eriksen and Dele were over-burdened. Lo Celso coming in will ensure they don't get burnt out or complacent.

If you are Lo Celso, Alli or whoever and you are losing out on a CL SF because Eriksen is playing - you might feel a bit annoyed. Not saying that is a key factor in things, but at the same time I don't think it is unreasonable that the players that will be here the year after are the ones prioritized for this season.

And even if those key players are getting enough time on the pitch you will give guys like Skipp less minutes - as the minutes are the same distributed on less players.

I am not worried about depth even if Eriksen leaves. Depth wasn't so bad last year either, but unlike Liverpool and City we generally struggled with injuries. We will get injuries again, but not unreasonable to think players like Dier and Wanyama will be available more. And that someone like Skipp is capable of playing more. N'Dombele fixed our depth as far as I am concerned.

Agree to disagree.

Also something that has to be considered.

Eriksen plays and Lo Celso is on the bench?

Not saying Lo Celso would do anything irrational about it, but it would have to feel a bit strange missing out on big games in that manner.

Given Dele's fitness and form issues recently I can't see any reason they can't both play in the same team probably along with either Son or Moura in an attacking three behind Kane (or Son pushed up top if covering).

I get your point but I think the fact that you frame a positive upshot of Eriksen leaving as Dier and Wanyama getting more game time says all we need to know. Those players are in no way, shape or form, able to replicate what Eriksen does for us. We need to be less ploddy not more. Of course Skipp is capable of playing more, I hope he does. But not in Eriksen's role.

Lo Celso looks exciting, but the point is if Eriksen goes now, he becomes his straight up replacement and that is risky. Especially as he seems a somewhat different type of player. We've even seen Lamela in a 10 role (where many thought he might work better) and the dropoff from Eriksen is pretty large.

One way or another this will be sorted come the end of the window.

(a) Eriksen signs a new contract and commits to the club for the foreseeable future
(b) Eriksen signs a new contract with a clause in it which enables him to leave if a team matches the negotiated amount in the contract
(c) Eriksen refuses to sign and Levy sells him for less than he would like this month abroad

I just cannot see Levy letting him run his contract down for a few months before signing a pre contract agreement with another club in January. I really hope he stays but if he leaves we might struggle until January but I am sure we would then look to bring in a replacement.
