So happy this is over, so we can move on the excrutiating pain that is the transfer window.

For his system to work, the strikers need to press , and it ain't happening with Son and Kane. Making matters worse, this malaise of rewarding laziness with guaranteed first team football has caught on, such that even Deki and Richarlison seems to just jog around the football pitch

Big task ahead, good luck Ange.
I think all of our attackers can press, I just don’t think that’s what was expected from the last few coaches who wanted everyone to drop deep behind the ball when possession was last. The change in mentality to be positive on the ball will be the hardest task and with patience he’ll get there.

I keep seeing people say this and that player won’t fit the system he plays at Celtic, I think he’ll be flexible in his formation but not in his philosophy. If you look at Pep at Munich where he changed formation from 4231 to 433 to 4141 to 3331 with either Lahm or Alaba playing in midfield just like how he’s evolved city’s formation - he’s adapted formations to the players and circumstances but retained the same philosophy. Not comparing AP to pep whatsoever but from what I’ve read or heard he has changed his formation at every club to suit the circumstances. As I mentioned, the biggest transition will need to be being positive on the ball when we’ve had three very risk adverse managers telling them to go back for the last three years.

Tbf it’s a very similar situation that we had under Poch at the beginning, where it took some time for the players to buy in and they only did when the youngsters like mason, bentaleb, walker and Kane bought into it.

Wow, there's some very differing opinions going on aren't there?! I remember the same situation when Jol and Poch came in and 99.9% of fans came to either like or love them. Any chance we could give Ange the benefit of doubt from day 1 and give him all of our support please? I haven't seen, read or heard anything that suggests we shouldn't buy in to what he's been doing for the last 20 odd years, even if he's taken the long route to get here. Also, I wonder whether Scott Munn has had significant influence in the appointment and the model might be 'old fashioned', where you just give the Manager the reigns and let them get on with it. p.s. I've worked for a long time today and have had some beers to relax, so feel free to pelter me!

So funny the club felt compelled to include "Now that the season and all domestic cup competitions have concluded..."

Just to highlight they always had a plan and know their arses from the elbows

Good luck to him, he seems like a really good bloke and his football teams up to now have been a good watch and successful for the most part.

He's joining a nonsense club this time, though, so he'll really need some luck and a bit of time to turn the ship around. The time component of that seems unlikely, so getting off to a good start to quieten the noisy minority of ne'er-do-wells would be most welcome.

The formation and tactics of the last 3+ years has essentially been 541 with a remit to stand off and defend deeply in numbers. PLaying on the break and not having the liability of possession is Mourinho's MO - he's written books about it. And despite Conte's team sheet looking like 343, it wasn't that at all excepting the run in of his first season.

You'd be wasting your time pressing in that set up. The whole team has to press, from back to front, or it's a waste of time.

“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy - everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead."

Nice one "Coys Daniel".
If 'fast, attacking football' and 'the link from the academy' are so important, maybe you'd like to publicly apologise for your last 3 managerial appointments which are totally and utterly polar opposite of that.
Or maybe focus on the positive that he’s realised that and has made a fantastic appointment on a 4 year contract who does fit exactly what is important to us.

Why is that funny?

I don’t blame them, they had to wait for the seasons of Slot and Ange’s teams to finish as they were two main targets.

So much BS in the media etc so club need to say some things like this to cut through the rubbish.

It is positive I’m just severely disappointed with the past 4 years and can’t easily forgive the man making these decisions.
And I hope he lets Ange do his job, I’m still nervous about him interfering.

Mate, you've been railing against the ineptitude of our hierarchy and breakdown of last season for weeks. No other club behaves this way, going for months with interimnof interim managers. This club's suits haven't a clue how to run a football operation, which is why most of our seasons wither and are undermined by senior exec decisions and absence of long term strategy. Just because we hit the right note from time to time with manager appointments, doesn't mean they know what they're doing.

It's got nothing to do with bs in the media. The last season was a fucking joke and a lot of that is because they appointed the wrong guys, and dont have plans in place. They didnt have a plan to wait the season out. They set us up for failure with the prior manager and had no contingency plan. You can be satisfied with our latest appointment without falling back into nonsense mode about the clowns that run this club

One can look at both things at the same time.

On one hand completely agree the last 3 years the way they’ve run the football side has been terrible and frustrating, on the other hand they’ve in the last 9 months restructured the player recruitment set-up, have appointed a Chief Football Officer from the City Group and have now hired imo a perfect fit Manager and given him a 4 year deal which are all positive steps.

I call it bad when it’s bad and good when it’s good, it doesn’t always have to be only one or the other it can be both, so right now choosing to focus on the positives and see how we go.
