In my opinion this is all a bit moot. If City turn up motivated and they play to even 70% of their ability, we won’t lay a glove on them anyway.
I see us losing to city, whether we want to or not, then beating Sheff Utd and finishing 5th. Which is a very very good first season under Ange.
I’m never one for the “youth players must be better than what we are showing” type of patter, as 95% of the time it’s just not true. That said I fail to see how Mikey Moore could do any worse than Kulu today.
Burnley are showing they will play out no matter what and their keeper looks like he’s never been asked to pass a ball before. Yet our pressing and closing high up the pitch has been so half arsed.
On major issue is the fact that a lot of our current team either: hide from the ball when the game is against us; or don’t hide but when they get it are so uncomfortable and unstable in possession that moves break down.
I’m not surprised Ange was doing his dinger on the touchline in the first...
A massive eye opener for me was the performance of each teams wide men.
Despite being against the elite powerhouses of Gilchrist and Cuccarella, Son and Johnson couldn’t beat them one on one all game. Yet every time Mudryk or Madueke had our full backs isolated I was saying to myself “shit...
We have a squad who’s whole front line (subs included) are virtually incapable of skinning a man from a standing start. Players that when isolated with their man one on one, you think, “this lads getting rinsed, we’re in here”. That’s a huge problem not having that profile at all.
All the “big”...
This is all on the players. Absolutely spineless.
- Not beaten a man one on one all game.
- Totally outmuscled for the most part in attack.
- Scared to get on the ball and play passes.
- Giving away petulant fouls that cost us both goals.
- Snatching any chances we make.
- Only start playing...
This squad is so average. We need so much surgery this summer, what we’ll get though will be nowhere near enough I fear.
We really should be spending these last 4 games bleeding in youth like Moore to see how they look, more for next season.
