Sol Campbell wants to be one of the greatest British managers ever

Just to be absolutely clear here, Sol Campbell took over Macclesfield when they were four points from safety with more than half of the season to go and with the team on the up, having won two games on the trot under their caretaker manager.

This is not "against the odds at a team who were literally dead n buried". Nor is it "a remarkable job". Indeed, it's not even the best escape Macclesfield have made in the past 15 years (as Paul Ince turned around a seven point deficit in 2006).

As achievements go, it's perfectly serviceable, but, let's have some perspective. Sol Campbell may prove to be a decent manager - if not human being - in time, but, so far, his managerial achievements equate to:

'Not quite as impressive as a manager whose last job saw him sacked by the mighty Blackpool'; and

'Got his team playing less shite than the worst Yeovil team this millennium'.

You'll forgive me therefore if I reserve judgement at this point as to whether he's as great a manager as the media will no doubt portray over the coming months every time a vacancy comes up.

I won't, however, be reserving judgement on one issue. He's still a ****.

No one is suggesting he is going to be an elite manager and doubt anyone has his back per se but he did better than expected and still no mean feat from the position they were in. Admittedly I havent seen Macclesfield and certainly havent seen their style of play.

It would be very interesting to see him at a better club and see how he does, Maybe a league one side but do agree there are still reservations.

It’s the title of thread!

We meet for a coffee at a small cafe in Battersea Park, where he lays out his plans to become 'one of the greatest managers this country has ever produced', combining different facets of the other worlds he has experienced.

He was never going to stay at Macclesfield. He thinks he is better than that. Suppose we will just have to wait and see where he washes up next and which mugs employ him. Personally I would like him to sink back into obscurity but with his inflated ego that is unlikely to happen.

I suspect the Barcodes will be looking for a new manager in a couple weeks. I would love to see him working alongside Ashley!!

One can only imagine the sheer ineptitude of a person who would acknowledge a mistake but still manage to choose an image with the transparancy layer visible when admitting the mea culpa.

He is so far up himself, so it is no surprise that the Macclesfield board got rid of him. I hope he stays away from football for the foreseeable future.

Whilst I hate the **** i echo others on here - he did well against the odds at a team who were literally dead n buried. Suffice to say if he wasnt getting paid then definitely leave - the fucker.

He will get a job for sure...

Really?
