    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

I've had my doubts since October/November time which I've been pretty public about, and plenty are now agreeing with my early concerns. I've also said throughout I can see what he's trying to achieve and if he gets what he needs I think it could be a success if he tweaks and adapts what we've...

I argued exactly the same for Conte and Jose so I'll repeat what I said for both of them. Hiring a manager with a specific style and principles of play, means he needs specific players with specific skill sets to make that work. This is 3 managers now Levy has hired in this mould and 2 of them...

Indeed. Which is why a mix of zonal and man marking shouldn't be too difficult of a way to fix things going forward.

Yes very effective, but I'd settle with just being more effective at set pieces whilst continuing to work on everything else over dedicating too much time to it. Like I've said it's not a case of reinventing the wheel here. Big Sam for instance used to make relegation teams into set piece gods...

They do and they don't. They sort of half do it in that they have 5 players around the 6 yard box and 3-4 who disrupt runners. It's quite different to what we have been doing. I've been very careful to keep saying we are playing a full zonal system. The idea behind it is that it is supposedly an...

I think it's become more apparent as times gone on. The better the better the opposition the easier it is to exploit. In the prem every team has great delivery and tactical awareness. There is black and white. Find my a pundit or an analyst that thinks zonal marking in this day and age a good...

It doesn't matter how much evidence was put in front of you, you'd argue black is white. We will leave it there.

PEH hasn't got the wrong side of anyone. He's held his ground. PEH was from a standing start and runners have come from behind him up the inside. The second goal was the same but they've just come from behind us at pace and got in front of us. If you really can't see it I guess you can't see...

Indeed I have no problem with having a man blocking the near post like Kane always did. I have no problem with putting fullbacks on the post or a man specifically to protect the keeper but you do need to have your best defenders picking up and marking runners. It's as simple as that.

I'll explain but tbh I thought it was pretty obvious. What happens is you put your defensive players into sections roughly 2m apart. That area is then their responsibility, and that's why they can't leave it. The opposition then rush a small area in unison creating an overload. This means not...

Then again you don't understand it. What we are doing by instruction isn't remotely flexible.

There were certainly a lot of positives too today. I think they are being overlooked due to the result, and we will probably see them more clearly on reflection.

I don't think you understand the point and premise of zonal marking I'm afraid.

    Manager Watch: Ange Postecoglou

It is basically what you said, saying players need to take more responsibility and basically leave their assigned role to do something else. In zonal marking that can't happen. The whole point of zonal defending is that every player has a specific task. If they left their position to deal with...
