Just for shits and giggles - I looked up the last 4 seasons.
There have been 11 total 20+ goal-scorers across all 4 seasons.
Kane (2x)
Salah (2x)
Haaland
Toney
Son
Vardy
Aubameyang
Ings
Sterling
Of those 20+ goal seasons - only 1 came on a team that won the league - Haaland, last season. Only 5 finished in the top-4.
The average league position amongst all 11: 5.4
We don't need a 20+ goal scorer to play with Son. We need players who play well as a unit, and work together to implement the system/tactics. And, if we get that, goals will come from enough places.
For me I just LOVE when it's someone like Werner or Johnson who gets criticised a lot. In particular Werner for his finishing. His finish yesterday wasn't easy by any means and he found the side netting meaning Martinez had zero chance.TBH

We sold Perisic already and need to sell Gil. Son moves up top where he is best. That leaves..Even if we do that I believe this pushes someone, likely Solomon, down the pecking order to 7th choice where he won’t get ample chance to play.
If we buy 2 attackers in the summer then I believe we’ll need to sell 1. I don’t believe any of our current options are players we currently want to sell.
2 players for each position then 3 young or versatile players to cover more extreme circumstances is a very strong squad.People talking about game time etc... whilst I get the sentiment I do think it's good to also be aware we're pretty much guaranteed to be in Europe next season (question is basically which competition). So we'll be in 4 competitions. Add to that the European competitions are getting expanded so that's even more games there. Then you look at our domestic cups and we went out pretty quickly in those... so point is hopefully we'll have the game time to give to these players.
Yesterday for example was Villa's 41st game of their season whilst we're gonna play a maximum of 41 games this season... so there's games to play for sure.
As for Werner specifically... I'd be very happy to keep him. He's come in, seems like a good fit both on and off the pitch. Give him a full pre-season where Ange can fully work with him and a fully fit squad and I'd be very happy with that. Could we get better? Maybe. Though I feel if we're gonna be spending money on deepening the squad I'd prefer to spend more on other areas. So a relatively cheap option here seems to make sense to me.

For the front 3 positions we currently have Son, Kulusevski, Johnson, Richarlison and Solomon. All are at a strage where they'll want to be playing football on at least a semi regular basis. So adding a 6th gives us a very strong set of options there especially when we have Veliz as the young backup.
Adding a 7th guarantees at least one player won't get any chance to play.
No one is saying we shouldn't have a strong squad, but you can overload a position.
I don't think it's about putting importance onto Solomon. I've said several times I have no idea about this player.I think like others have said, you may be putting too much importance on Solomon. Injuries have obviously been a major factor but I don't really see him pushing ahead of any of these other guys.
I do, though, think that given the number of games possible to play that there will be a fair amount of rotation in our forward line to keep up with that, so 7 players may be a lot but not overwhelming. Not to mention that 7 also kinda assumes that Veliz will be playing more of a role next year as well. And whilst I think he'll get more playtime, I still think he'll be lower on the pecking order anyway.
So next season, I can see our main forward options being: Son, Johnson, Kulusevski, Werner, Veliz + 2 others. I think Richarlison will probably stay but I could see a world where he goes. Solomon I could see a world where we try and make a profit out of him.
Disagree. To win titles and champions leagues you absolutely need special players. We don't need special players and I can't think of anyone we could get anyway. We just need players who fit the system and give everything for the shirt. Time to stop thinking like when we had Kane. Players are having to step up without him and we're better for it.
Let's be real , Werner has done more than Soloman did in his initial games. Now obviously it's harsh for Soloman but he has injury history as well so it's a concern. I don't mind having him as an extra body for depth but we can't count on him to be fit next season. We need 2 attackers in the summer so signing one who is already bedded in makes sense. Werner over Soloman and Gil all day long and we already sold Perisic. It seems a pretty easy decision in truth.
We did not really "buy" him - we got him on a free. But I am hoping we bought him because he has the ability and playing style to offer us something. Coming back to being 7th choice is as good as telling him he has no career here.
Not just to complement Son but somebody to step in once Son leaves/hanga up his boots. Son himself is 31 and whilst he's still top quality he's definitely lost half a yard from 4/5 years ago.I feel like we have the “numbers” but still need to add someone of real genuine elite dribbling quality (with end product) to complement Son to our forward line to compete with the best sides
Should have 3 assists, cannot for the life of me understand why the first goal against brentford wasn’t an assist credited to him other than a deflection on the shot which has nothing to do with the pass… completely agree on the rest, has to be signed permanently4 goal contributions (2g, 2a) in 7 apps is a fantastic return for a January loan signing. He’s clearly made himself a really popular member of the dressing room, too. Think it’s a no brainer to make him a permanent signing in the summer.
Yeh it's the block from the initial shot by Udogie. It sucks but thems the rules.Should have 3 assists, cannot for the life of me understand why the first goal against brentford wasn’t an assist credited to him other than a deflection on the shot which has nothing to do with the pass… completely agree on the rest, has to be signed permanently
We had special players like Kane and Bale but won nothing. It's more about the overall squad quality. Not relying on one special player but having threats from various positions. One reason we fell short was because teams knew if they stop Kane they often stop us.Disagree. To win titles and champions leagues you absolutely need special players.
players who can do something out of nothing in the big tight games.
