Oh great let’s blame the refs
Ligue 1 doing what everyone should be doing, reffing up mics in the game and giving them interviews after. Shows them in a different light
I've been watching top level football since 1960 and nothing has changed with standard of reffing other than the game has got harder, faster, more competitive, and therefore more difficult to ref.I think the moaning about refs are incessant and tiresome. It is just insanely tiring, just look at the PL thread to just see how people interrogate each decision no matter how minute in such extensive detail. Its the same on twitter. The good old 'in our game in 2016 we had a foul against us given but today in 2023 this foul wasnt given'. The sooner everyone accepts mistakes will happen and not to interrogate each decision, the far more enjoyable and less stressful a game is.
Having given my rant, I do think improvement is required and these are relatively simple fixes, mainly revolving around communication. For example, if VAR was like the rugby TMO where you can hear the discussions - that would be an easy win.
Another is interviewing, like the video... by someone impartial and perhaps just focussing on the key subjective decisions which didn't go to VAR (as that would already be covered by the hearing their discussions.
I think in both cases, whilst in wont eliminate moaning, we would understand why certain decisions are being given eg the Skipp situations v Liverpool - on both counts may I add, as he also had a nasty follow through lets not conveniently forget.
Referees would certainly demand more money and rightly so, I think they would need more training particularly media training no doubt. The issue is, I dont think the PGMOL would wan to put them in such a firing line.
Indeed the failure of VAR is what annoys me, not the standard of refereeing.I've been watching top level football since 1960 and nothing has changed with standard of reffing other than the game has got harder, faster, more competitive, and therefore more difficult to ref.
