I don’t mind gambling on a risky appointment if the potential payoff is big. Kompany would represent a big gamble but what’s the pay off? As soon as he has any sort of impact here then the noises around City etc will begin. He might end up being a great manager but I want someone who wants to build something special here. Not someone who will have one eye on a bigger job from day one.
Thing is though that there is that risk whoever we get - they do well and get linked with another club.

Of course. But you only have to look at the Gerard situation at Villa to see that the narrative from day one was about him succeeding Klopp. It will be the same with Kompany and I just don’t want that at our club.

We’re really not going to go for Kompany are we.
Levy will not in my a million years go for that.

Yep. There is zero chance we will appoint Kompany. Not sure why he’s even being discussed. I’d say there is less than 1% chance we’d appoint him this summer.

Any manager, any manager at all will have a 'narrative'. Do poorly and it's him being sacked or quitting, do well and it'll be him being wanted by another club.

Not sure how you're going to get what you want on this one.

Conte has been linked with leaving us since he joined. Poch was always linked with United. Best to just ignore any media links and focus on them being our manager. Need to stop this looking ahead before they even start a job with us and focus on the here and now.

I wanted Ten Hag when we got Nuno because I really like Ajaxs style of play when we played them.

This time around I want Amorim because I have enjoyed watching Sporting when I've seen them in the 4 games I've watched. Even in the cup final loss they still played lovely football.

Far too much attention or care is given to pundits, social media or media stories and opinions, banter from friends etc etc.

People need to accept that's how it is and that often times people will say stuff one doesn't particularly like or agree with. It's thus for every club.

Thicker skins are required because it's never going to change and all that will happen is the list of things that 'bother' you is going to get bigger. It isn't good for you.

Not sure why Kompany felt the need to answer when asked about Viera. Should only talk about his club. I never like it when managers do that, same for talking about another teams player.

I don't think De Zerbi is likely as I'm not sure he leaves Brighton so soon or that Levi will pay what that would take. Therefore, it's surely between Poch, Amorim and Enrique and think I'd be happy taking a punt on any of those.

Fun to speculate, but its gonna be Poch whether we like it or not.

I see any Spurs media input as a pretence at due diligence.

I pretty much just watch the matches and mostly pre and post match interviews these days. Let me tell you it's a much happier existence. Take anything you read with a pinch of salt, too.

I'm all for discussing our next manager, as it seems highly likely Conte will leave. But to already be talking about them potentially being linked for their next job? Feels like people worry to much over things out of their control.

I think Amorim has a large contract release clause too

These are the same people that refused to excited about the Reguilon signing because R.Madrid had a buy back option.

Fast forward to modern day & it’s fair to say, those worries now appear completely irrational.

Sometimes you’ve gotta let yourself go a bit or you’ll never enjoy anything.

Interesting when you look at what these candidates have won and where they have managed

Kompany
  • Anderlecht - 3 seasons - runner up in the Belgian cup - win rate 45%
  • Burnley - 1 st season - EFL manager of month 3 times (y) - win rate 65%

Enrique
  • Roma - 1 season - won nothing - win rate 40%
  • Celta - 1 season - won nothing - win rate 37%
  • Barca - 3 seasons - 2 leagues, 3 cups, 1 CL - win rate 76%
  • Spain - 4 years - won nothing - win rate 62%
Gallardo
  • Nacional - 1 season - 1 league - win rate 58%
  • River Plate - 8 seasons - 1 league, 3 cups, 2 CL equivalent - wine rate 53%
Summary and I am being a tad provocative
  • Kompany - won nothing with historically the biggest club in Belgium, doing well at Burley and made a really good motivational video
  • Enrique - only won with one of the best teams ever which he did not build
  • Gallardo - for all the noise only won 1 league in 8 years at River Plate
Now all for a manager who plays good football and it is why i started supporting spurs in the days of Hoddle, Waddle, etc, but there is no guarantee of success in the hardest league in the world
That's an unfair analysis for Gallardo. Specially if you don't have context.
You can't win Libertadores and local league. Rosters in South America are not as big as in Europe . You have the first team, and probably a good bench (in the case of the top teams). But you don't have enough players to go 100% in every competition. I can't recall the last team that won Libertadores and local league. Not in Brazil or Argentina.
Gallardo started in 2014 and won the first international cup he played. Copa Sudamericana (equivalent of UEFA Cup). Following year he won the Copa Libertadores at the first try.
Before his tenure River Plate had only 2 cups. This has always been his focus. Local league has always been a mix of first team and reserves. (River has the most leagues in Argentina, they want more cups)
His record in the CL is
2015 - Winner
2016 - Round of 16
2017 - Semifinals
2018 - Winner
2019 - Semifinals
2020 - Semifinals
2021 - Quarter Finals
2022 - Round of 16

Gallardo's impact in River has been similar to Klopp in Liverpool

People are going to need those if/when Arsenal win the league. I must say I fear for some. I’ve already muted anything to do with them on social media in preparation!

IF they win it then fair play. They will have deserved it. Life is too short to be emotionally high strung to the point a football club and "banter" upset you.

Anyways our next manager likely from next season.. I still have a feeling it will be Poch. Probably be wrong though.

Can we add Emery to the list? Amazing form since he took over Villa, and we will need someone who can win Cup Uefa.
