If you dont think its a red - are we just allowing players to lash out and hit/catch each other in the face now?
VAR officials shouldn't be refs. They should be independent. Remove the emotion and chumminess from it all.The standard of officiating in this country has declined since VAR was introduced.
But he should have been booked for the foulVAR can't give a yellow card. I assume they thought it wasn't enough to give a red but equally he couldn't just get away with it. So by giving a red and telling the ref to go to the monitor, it allowed the ref to review and produce a yellow. It's a shite system but probably the right outcome.
Maybe but - hands to the face used to be a bright line that could not be crossed.I’d be embarrassed to go down like royal did from such a wet slap ?
VAR could have checked it as a potential red card incident?I have a feeling that it was process and that he had to give a red so he can then VAR it but I dont know.
The lack of playmaker has caused us so many issues over the last few seasons. It feels like it’s even further exacerbated by Royal now coming inside as it pushes Kulu out wide. It certainly helps Royal but I feel like it doesn’t help the team as Kulu is our only creative AM.
The images they actually showed the ref made it look like a clear red, the other images we were shown shows his hand slip off the shoulder.Initially I thought that. But another angle looked like an attempt at a slap. I suppose it’s not entirely clear. The officials don’t seem to all be in agreement with each other either.
But it as a double yellow? The tackle that stopped a counter attack, and then a second yellow for a shove on the face?It was never a red. Don’t be so bloody stupid.
