Not as deflating as that contemptible NLD performance that I am reminded I sat through every time I see that exquisite Lamela goal.

The same happens to me with that amazing Lucas Moura hat-trick against Ajax and that hyper-dramatic match against City on the previous round. They just remind me to that infamous CL final against Liverpool. And that's why we really don't get to have nice things.

Just checked and since it's been going in 2009, no team has ever won the award twice and obviously that also means no team has ever won it in consecutive seasons either - think it will be a long time before that's a record broken.

He should've gotten it for his other Rabona at lane in the europa league; he didn't even get nominated for that one IIRC!

I hope this forces Scaloni to realize what an amazing talent he has at his disposal and to call him for the Argentina national team ahead of this year's world cup.

Who's he getting in ahead of? Di Maria, Messi, Ocampos all play RW.

Not to mention that is the most logical fit for Dybala as well.

Why would he need to be getting ahead of any of them? Not only national team squads are fairly large, but these are all flexible players that can be used in different positions, including Lamela. Plus, I've seen my fair share of Argentina matches, and they can certainly use more creative players like Erik (whereas his shithousery and never say die attitude will fit in perfectly with Scaloni's approach). And add to that that Messi's fitness isn't what it used to be, which means that he will require some rotation (as Di María will also), specially if Argentina is expected to make it to the final stages (which most of us hope they will, since this might be Messi's last shot at a World Cup)

I agree that at this stage is unlikely that he will be called back for the national team in time for the world cup, but a lot can change in the span of 10 months.

Because I doubt they bring 4 players who play RW.

He‘s obviously being sincere but I have an image of Lamela rubbing his hands together, laughing hysterically…
