Yeah I went to the show last night. Some good fights, better than last years event in London.
I thought Volkan won 2 rounds to 1 so not sure how Reyes got the decision there.
Edwards really impressed with his grappling against Gunnar.
Masvidal took advantage of the openings that Till leaves with a big left hook.
Overall it was still a good night for the UK fighters. They still have some way to go but there is a lot more talent coming through now.
Big wins for McCann, Wood and Diakiese. Although not a great fight Allen got a win as well.
I thought Roberts was unlucky. He had Silva hurt a couple of times but got into grappling range which is not where you want Silva.
It always annoys me when a fighter gets their opponent hurt and gives them chance to grapple instead of stepping back and keeping in striking range.
The big talking point was the brawl backstage between Edwards and Masvidal
Edwards was calling Masvidal out for a fight in July. The squared up and Masvidal throws a few punches cutting Edwards in the process.
Not what the sport should be about. Masvidal claims that Edwards put his hands up which technically is a gesture to fight.
I'd like an MMA fighter to show more dicipline though. It should set up a fight between them I'm sure.
How fitting though that Bisping was inducted into the HOF. So well deserved because he put UK MMA on the map in a big way.
This card showed the influence he has had on British MMA.
I agree with what you've said and I also think the Khabib beatdown made him realise that he's not as good as he thought he was and it must have seriously crushed his ego because he wasn't at all close to getting on top in that one. I think he's too scared to jump back in and face more (likely) losses as that would leave a blemish on his record (for his ego and notoriety's sake) 18-4 is pretty solid, imagine if that became 20-8. He wouldn't like the thought of that.I'm not going to believe Conor is retired. It could just as well be a publicity stunt. He's an attention seeker of the highest order.
I like him as a stand up fighter but he was never a complete martial artist. You look at the likes of Holloway, Ferguson and Jones, they're so good on the ground as well as the feet. He never really reached the potential because he doesn't work enough on his weaknesses. Hell he recently said that the fight with Mayweather was lost because he trained for a counter attacker. Mayweather started that way but changed it early in the fight and started pressing forward instead and Conor couldn't cope. That for me just sums up his mindset. The same happened with Khabib when Khabib was more patient rather than pressing forward aggressively as he did in previous fights. You have to be able to fight different ways and adapt in this game. Thats why Bruce Lee was so ahead of his time because he understood the need to adapt to your opponent.
He always comes across as someone who lives in denial. Every time he does an interview he suggests he was doing better in the fight than he did. Even after the Khabib fight he suggested he was doing well until he got submitted. I think he even suggested he won the first round. Maybe on the inside though he recognises that he's not the elite fighter he claims to be and his interviews are just for show.I agree with what you've said and I also think the Khabib beatdown made him realise that he's not as good as he thought he was and it must have seriously crushed his ego because he wasn't at all close to getting on top in that one. Yes this is about Conor although I didn't hear the word rape used. No charges have been brought forward and no real details about it yet. Only that he's being accused of a sexual assault in Ireland back in December. We'll see where it leads but it's never good to have such allegations aimed at you.Anything to do with the ongoing alleged rape allegation?

Honestly I think the weight class is too big for him and he should have dropped back down but maybe too proud to do it. He's fighting guys in Diaz and Khabib who cut down to lightweight. He's great at fighting the smaller guys at 145 and even in his lightweight title win fought a small guy in Alvarez. Yet he continues to try and challenge big lightweights like Cerrone. I respect that he wants to challenge himself, but he can't handle the grappling against the bigger lightweights and doesn't carry the same ko power in that division.
He probably fights best against natural 155lbs opponents but who is there at the top of the division at that weight? That's the trouble with weight cuts, he's not fighting too many natural 155lbs fighters. The natural 155lbs fighters are fighting at 145. It seems that weight cuts are necessary just to fight the right size opponent come fight night. I look at Khabib, Ferguson, Diaz and Cerrone who are all possible opponents for him and I think he struggles against those guys. They all walk around about 20lbs above the weight. He's about the size of Holloway, tall and long but not built like those guys who cut down to lightweight. That weight cut to 145 is to much for him, he probably can't do it anymore.
I still think he does well against a lot of 155er's. The problem is his gas tank is bad for a smaller weight fighter.
Doubt it will go far considering the girl was originally too terrified to make a statement, though the police did take her to hospital.Yes this is about Conor although I didn't hear the word rape used.
